Notes / Commercial Description:
This West Coast/Rocky Mountain-style India Pale Ale is back-hopped for a more intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma without the balance of caramel malts like our Midwest-style Baldock IPA. Destihl Brewery "Vertex IPA"
on tap @ Taphouse 23, Bridgeport, PA on 13 February 2015

Notes: Clear copper body beneath a creamy head of off-white that holds well and leaves some nice lacing behind. Moderately hoppy aroma of orange, grapefruit, and pineapple over a caramelish malt base. The flavor follows with little change. Solid bitterness. Medium bodied with a standard carbonation. It finishes dry with some residual fruit and earth. Basic.

My first stab of this brewery....Pours into a nonic a dull medium golden with a sticky half finger bone white crown that never really settles.First whiffs are of mango and lemon then it kinda peters out...still not bad.A bready palate with light caramel, the hops are more grassy and herbal in flavor wich is a big difference from the aromas. The flavors just don't mach up to the rest of the beer wich is to bad, still pretty decent.

12 oz can. Pours clear copper gold with a big fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass a little.

The aroma is sweet bready crystal malt with some piney hops.

The flavor is sweet doughy crystal malts with a little fruit and resiny grassy hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with light carbonation.

Overall, a decent IPA. A little too much crystal malt and grassy hop flavor for me.

On tap at town hall tap for kill the tap night. This is a Bready ipa with a grapefruit type flavor that is prevalent with the hops. Solid ipa.

Light floral nose. Pours brilliant amber under a ½” foam tap that produces thick lace. Herbal spicy hops blend with citrus and a suggestion of mint dominate the palate with an herbal hoppy astringency on the finish with an assertive but not harsh bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer pours a ice tea brown color with a creamy/bubbly light beige head that sticks to the glass and has a slow dense carbonation

S- The green pine needle aroma is herbal and turns more woody as it opens up and has a slight dark quality to it. There is a hint of green citrus rind in the hops profile at the finish.

T- The green herbal taste has dried green citrus rind notes and a full slightly pungent bitterness. The hops are full but well roundend and the mellow pungent bitterness lingers. There is a faint white wine and green fruit note that comes through when the beer opens up.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle carbonation and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- The big full but gentle hops have lots of nice pungency with some dark qualities and smooth bitterness. I didn't get many of the typical Citra qualities and the malt flavor was well hidden. Goes down pretty smooth for such a big beer.

The Vertex from a can is good. The beer poured a slightly hazy amberish with thick head that is leaving much lace. The scent carries pine with hints of citrus. The taste is a decent balanced IPA....not too bitter....has the pine as the primary.. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall I think this is a very good beer and sessionable.

Pours an effervescent honey color with 2 fingers of rocky cream colored head. Insane lacing & head retention

S: Citrus, mango & breadyness

T: Follows the nose, dryness, & a little lime up front. Mango, tangerine & light breadyness as this warms, a little pineapple as this warms. Finishes with pineapple, tangerine & a little grapefruit

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, great balance

A very nice IPA, well worth picking up

Worst beer I've had in a long time. Nothing about this tasted like an IPA (American or traditional English style). No hops and something that maybe tasted like malt... Maybe. Could only stomach 3 drinks before I had to dump it. It was absolutely awful.

I have a few more beers from the brewery, I am praying this was an anomaly.

Pours a dark golden orange with a single finger of off-white foam.

Biscuits, caramel, grapefruit, and rather floral.

Citrus, mainly grapefruit, caramel malts, herbal/floral notes, and bready/biscuit like character.

Light-medium bodied, medium carbonation, biscuity, dry finish.

Overall, I was expecting more out of this IPA. Nothing to write home about, but well balanced and tasty nonetheless.

Giving this another shot as they just started distributing in cans locally.
Can dated "14-1021", so i'm assuming it's around 5 weeks old.

Hazy orange with a copious amount of sticky foam that coats the glass in sheets. Long lasting surface coverage.

Aroma is a bit more fruitier than I remember, dried orange peel, grapefruit pith, bubblegum.

Taste is moderately bitter with a bit more citrus, still a bit grassy with an aspirin bitterness that bleeds through in the aftertaste. Bitter grapefruit rind, soft carbonation, somewhat smooth. Bitterness builds in the aftertaste it seems. Overall it seems like a slight improvement though not something i'd reach for over local IPAs.

Billed as a "back-hopped, west-coast style IPA".
Served on draft at the brewpub in Normal.

Orange yellow sunshine color with a slight haze, creamy white foam that leaves a solid sheet of lacing around the glass. Numerous streams of rapid carbonation are visible.

Lightly floral and herbal aroma, not really a hop bomb, but a good IPA nose. Flavors follow pretty closely, moderate grassy herbal bitterness, some aspirin and leaf clippings. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Something worth trying but not something i'd return to. A fairly middle of the road IPA.
