Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This West Coast/Rocky Mountain-style India Pale Ale is back-hopped for a more intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma without the balance of caramel malts like our Midwest-style Baldock IPA. It has medium-high alcohol content, high fruity, floral and citrus-like American-varietal hop character, deep golden color and medium maltiness.

Worst beer I've had in a long time. Nothing about this tasted like an IPA (American or traditional English style). No hops and something that maybe tasted like malt... Maybe. Could only stomach 3 drinks before I had to dump it. It was absolutely awful.

I have a few more beers from the brewery, I am praying this was an anomaly.

12oz Can

A — Pours a deep almost dark amber color into the glass, little bit of sediment is apparent even with a slow pour. Light khaki colored head forms and doesn't leave much lacing behind.

S — Smells of rich sweaty malts, lots of grain and carmel, overly sweet and little to no hop presence. Any hops here are completely faded and dominated by sweet malts.

T — Tastes incredibly sweet, acrid, and bitter, just a total mess of flavors. This is just such a bummer.

M — Medium bodied, finish is long and sticky, lots of awful flavors linger around.

O — This was seriously a drain pour. Which is very, very, very, rare. Extremely malty sweet and just gross. No fresh hop presence whatsoever. Disgusting overall. I still like DESTIHL, their wild sours are pretty good, just can't stomach this one, really misses the mark.

Destihl Vertex IPA has an extremely thick, spongy, mousse, white head, and an opaque, orange, highly bubbly appearance, which becomes milky, once the caked sediment in swished and poured in. This ale exploded out of the can. The aroma is odd- some sweet & sour sauce notes, and the same thing is present in the taste. Yes, bitterness is strong, but it seems harsh and oddly placed or out of sorts. Mouthfeel is heavy and pulpy. This beer finishes sloppy. I don’t know what the deal is, here. There are some tropical aspects, but it is almost like a rank fruit presentation.

The last 2 reviews nail it. Local guys, I support them, but the sour line is what they are best at.

On tap at TJ's, Paoli.

Murky orange-amber color, with a small collar of white bubbles on top; minimal lacing. Kind of dead looking. Floral aroma, citrus juice, dull hops, bready caramel malts. Taste was pretty sweet, with the caramel malts in the forefront, backed by some floral/herbal/leafy hops, and a touch of bitter citrus oils, some mineral notes. Not very fresh or crisp, and certainly not like any good West Coast IPA I've ever had, which is what the beer was advertised as being. Medium body, somewhat slick mouthfeel. Meh, basic homebrew kit stuff here. Works maybe as a regular pale ale, but this wasn't really an IPA.
