This West Coast/Rocky Mountain-style India Pale Ale is back-hopped for a more intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma without the balance of caramel malts like our Midwest-style Baldock IPA. on tap at the brew pub in champaign. the bartender poured it until there was no head in the glass, just beer to the rim, gotta like that. the body was a pretty clear amber orange with moderate bubbles rising. smell was kinda weak but there was citrus present. taste was better than the nose. big citrus punch to it. some caramel malt to blend and round over the bitterness. mouthfeel seemed kinda thin, although there was plenty of dryness on the finish and well blended. overall this is very drinkable and would order again.

Appearance & Aroma: It was fairly clear and was amber in color. It had almost no head on it, with just a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. It had a light malty aroma with some citrusy hop aromas as well.

Taste & Feel: The body was somewhat light and the mouthfeel was a bit crisp from carbonation and hops. The flavors up front were a bit malty with some hints of caramel malts. A citrusy hop flavor kicked in quickly, carrying through the finish and lasting for a little bit in the aftertaste. the finish was slightly dry from the bitterness of the hops.

I had the chorizo and mushroom stone oven pizza, and it went nicely with this beer. The bready and caramel flavors up front went well with the crispy crust and spicy chorizo flavors, and the citrusy hop flavors and dry finish prepped my mouth for another slice of pizza.

I was a bit surprised by the somewhat light body on this IPA, but it made it a very drinkable beer. The citrusy hop flavors were middle of the road – not too bitter, but they were obviously prominent. Overall, I thought it was pretty drinkable with a nice clean citrusy bitterness. It wasn’t too big, or too small, just a middle of road, decent IPA.

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer pours a ice tea brown color with a creamy/bubbly light beige head that sticks to the glass and has a slow dense carbonation

S- The green pine needle aroma is herbal and turns more woody as it opens up and has a slight dark quality to it. There is a hint of green citrus rind in the hops profile at the finish.

T- The green herbal taste has dried green citrus rind notes and a full slightly pungent bitterness. The hops are full but well roundend and the mellow pungent bitterness lingers. There is a faint white wine and green fruit note that comes through when the beer opens up.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle carbonation and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- The big full but gentle hops have lots of nice pungency with some dark qualities and smooth bitterness. I didn't get many of the typical Citra qualities and the malt flavor was well hidden. Goes down pretty smooth for such a big beer.

Giving this another shot as they just started distributing in cans locally.
Can dated "14-1021", so i'm assuming it's around 5 weeks old.

Hazy orange with a copious amount of sticky foam that coats the glass in sheets. Long lasting surface coverage.

Aroma is a bit more fruitier than I remember, dried orange peel, grapefruit pith, bubblegum.

Taste is moderately bitter with a bit more citrus, still a bit grassy with an aspirin bitterness that bleeds through in the aftertaste. Bitter grapefruit rind, soft carbonation, somewhat smooth. Bitterness builds in the aftertaste it seems. Overall it seems like a slight improvement though not something i'd reach for over local IPAs.

Billed as a "back-hopped, west-coast style IPA".
Served on draft at the brewpub in Normal.

Orange yellow sunshine color with a slight haze, creamy white foam that leaves a solid sheet of lacing around the glass. Numerous streams of rapid carbonation are visible.

Lightly floral and herbal aroma, not really a hop bomb, but a good IPA nose. Flavors follow pretty closely, moderate grassy herbal bitterness, some aspirin and leaf clippings. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Something worth trying but not something i'd return to. A fairly middle of the road IPA.

Had this on 2012-02-13 in Normal, PA at the brew pub.

A - Clear golden-amber with 1-finger white head and good lacing. Looks great.

S - Mild whiffs of citrus flesh and hop floral. Food aromas may be interfering.

T - Up-front biscuit malt then some citrus flesh and zest. Residual bitterness fades after 30 seconds. A nice but not great flavor.

M - Light-medium body and medium carbonation. Crsip and refreshing.

O - Pretty decent. Bitter enough for my tastes and this style but not overly-complex.
