Tasted like New Glarus Raspberry tart with some raspberry vinegar in it. Aged 18 months, and maybe that’s too long when it’s just going to be a fruit vehicle.

Beautiful black red sanguine blood of christ with a purple foam. Aromas of black raspberry, whiff of sugar and vinegar.

Taste is the same, somewhat rich fruit character, fairly sweet, with a moderate sourness and underlying acetic sting. I’ve been reassured that the last batch was vinegar free so this may be a new direction. Not the end all be all black raspberry beer that some would have you believe, all the words in the thesaurus can't make up for that acetic sting. Thanks Thomas and Adam for the assist after the annual foraging trip.

Had this one on tap at Arclight. This one was really good. Not too tart and just enough sweetness. The look is really nice, dark purple with a redish purple head. We bought a bottle to bring home with us.

11 ounce pour - $10.00 at Taco Mac in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Served up a very dark purple-black body with a thin, thinning, reddish-purple ring.

Smell: A coalesced stream of balsamic vinegar and sweet, tart berry syrup.

Taste: A heavy-handed glug glug glug of balsamic vinegar flavored with black raspberry and chased with a back of PAAS Easter Egg dye. It's sweet, a little sweaty and strongly vinegary.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Very lightly carbonated.

Overall: Whew! That was a rough ten ounces. A severe beverage -- no niceties, no subtleties and certainly no grace.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: Arrives with a deep purple color and capped by a thick mauve head; clumps of pinkish foam cling to the glass

Smell: Black raspberry (I didn't know this was different from blackberry) and vinous red wine grape; oaky with a hint of sweetness

Taste: Sour black raspberry and, blackberry, along with black cherry forward, as the bold flavor develops, red wine grape and a sweeter jammy flavor comes through, bringing a pie crust aspect, as well; oaky, with a nice balance between the sweet and the sour, in the finish, along with a dry character

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: I had not heard of this brewery before but this is really impressive and, if other beers match this quality, these guys should be in the national conversation

Sample at the Sour Beer fest in Boston on 6/15/2019
Deep reddish purple with a thin pink head that recedes. Intense sweet and tart fruit nose and flavor with a light puckering tartness. One of the best beers at the fest.

This was an absolutely amazing brew. Tart, slightly acidic. But beautifully balanced and provides huge hits of punchy black raspberries. A great beer.

Lives up to the hype, this is a simply incredible fruited sour. Looks like red wine, smells of jammy berries, taste is just breathtaking. Explosion of intense berry flavors, jammy and funky without being too puckering, cannot fathom that this is 9%. The Soursmith series is great and this is the best one (close second is the Pineapple Mango).

16 ounce prowler into tulip glass, filled on 1/18/2019. Pours crystal clear very dark ruby red/purple/brown color with a small dense dark pink/purple head with great retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge juicy/tart/tangy black raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, strawberry, orange, grapefruit, peach, plum, pear, apricot, mango, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, brown sugar, wheat, and bread dough; with lighter notes of oaken vanilla, pepper, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of black raspberries, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and wine barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of huge juicy/tart/tangy black raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, strawberry, orange, grapefruit, peach, plum, pear, apricot, mango, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, brown sugar, wheat, and bread dough; with lighter notes of oaken vanilla, pepper, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and slight yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. lingering notes of black raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, strawberry, orange, grapefruit, peach, plum, pear, apricot, mango, melon, red/green apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, honey, brown sugar, wheat, bread dough, oaken vanilla, pepper, leathery/musty/lacto funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Insane complexity, robustness, and balance of black raspberries, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and wine barrel flavors; with an amazing malt/tart/sourness, and tangy fruit balance; with zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly acidic/tangy/tannic mouthfeel that is insane. Minimal warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is a mind blowing fruited sour/wild ale! All around insane complexity, robustness, and balance of black raspberries, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, dark/bready malt, and wine barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish, not overly lactic. Absolutely enormous juicy/jammy berries; with perfectly balanced Brett/Bacteria complexity, wine barrels, and dark/bready malts against acidity. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Not overly sweet, or sour/tart/tangy either way. A truly mind blowing offering, and world class style example. Definitely the best imperial sour I've ever had, lives up to the hype.

This one pours a stunningly dark red color, almost black, with a small foamy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like pure and utter black raspberry, with lactose/melted smoothie, and lemon candy.

This is only mildly tart, as the absurd amount of raspberry ovewhelms everything here. It's a supremely good expression the fruit- the fruit flavor is so deep, creamy, juicy, and authentic. It's honestly of the best raspberry flavors I've ever gotten out of a beer. It's easy to get over how one-note this is, because the raspberry is just ridiculous.

This is really, really creamy, with a good level of drinkability. It's like a melted smoothie.

This is vey impressive. It's one of the most fruit forward beers I've ever had.

Darker purple in body, one finger light purple head. One finger offwhite head. Smell is bright raspberry jam, moderate acetic acidity, light lactic presence, touch of lemon. Slight hint of oak. Touch of tannin, maybe even a little vanillin. Flavour follows, although a bit more acetic than expected, more fruit tartness than on the nose. Mouthfeel is medium in body, good carbonation. Dry. A solid blackberry sour, absolutely jammy with lots of tart fruit character to it.

Look: Violet, dark purple with a one finger off bubbly pink head. It's an absolutely stunning looking beer.

Smell: Rich dark raspberry, cranberry, blackberry. A lot of red wine notes coming through. Oak, wet hay, and a light pie crust note. But overall the nose is dominated by red wine and dark Raspberry.

Taste: Right away your just smacked with intense sour warhead berry fruit notes. Big dark raspberry, blackberries, sour cherries. That sour subsides in the mid palate for a split second to let flavors of wet hay, a good amount of vinegar and jammy Raspberry to come through. The beer finishes with the berry sourness just attacking the plate, cranberry juice, dry oak, pie crust and red wine finish out the beer.

Feel: Medium bodied, with a perfect amount of carbonation that adds to the mouthfeel in the most perfect way. The beer finishes like a semi dry red wine. The sour berry notes linger with the red wine in the aftertaste, but your mouth quickly drys out.

Overall: This is a straight 5/5. It's a beer I would change nothing about. This brewery deserves national attention for this beer.

Though I had it in fall, this beer reminded me of summer. The smell was so beautiful and pure, like putting your head in the basket of freshly picked berries. Nice sour finish after the sweeter blackberry taste, with vanilla, graham cracker, grape, and red wine funk all subtly there. So balanced and delicious.
