Fishin’ in the Dark is a testament to the ingenuity and youth of modern Independent brewing. This Platinum award-winner is one of Brewmaster Ashley Kinart’s first creations, and was an overnight crowd favorite. A darker nod to a traditional pilsner, this Imperial Schwarzbier is brewed with smoked malts, creating a powerful experience for the drinker. Yet, it is disarmingly light in body with a crisp, refreshing flavor.

Pours very dark brown with a thin, disappearing head. Spotted lacing.
The smell is of restrained roast, dark malt, some anise.
The taste is of sweet-ish roasted dark malt. A fruitiness that is between grape and raisin is present. Licorice and slightly earthy hop touch in the finish. Some alcohol shows.
Solvent alcohol makes it slick. Slightly astringent for a lager.
Not the smoothest lager. Not sure that making this an imperial without more malt backbone did this any good. Also, it had some ale character that didn't go well with it. It's not a complete disaster, but a brewery that specializes in lagers could have done better.

Pours a nearly completely black color with a strong tan head. SRM of 23. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of dark malt, roast, some coffee.
Flavor: Moderate flavors of dark malt, chocolate, cocoa, milk chocolate with a mild roasted barley and malt flavor. Soem smooth milk chocolate sweetness overpowers the roast.
Feel: Medium-bodied, Heavier for the style obviously. Smooth and silky milk chocolates with a light roast note. More like a
Overall: Drinks heavier and nicely. Sort of like a milk stout . Creamy and smooth with some roasted notes. I think it holds up the flavor, but a Schwarzbier is a bit of a stretch. Nice flavors and mouthfeel here. (4.03)

Appearance - From the bottle, the beer poured black with a slight mocha head.
Smell - The nose was largely composed of dark malts.
Taste - The initial taste was much sweeter than I expected. Bitterness came more toward the back of the taste. A dry finish closed out the experience. This is a pretty good version of the style though weirdly sweet.
Mouthfeel - Carbonation was light but the body was representative of the style.
Overall - The is better than the ratings would indicate.

This 12 ounce bottle pours a very dark brown almost black with a solid two fingers of beautiful darker tan froth. No lacing is left behind.
The aroma is that of roasted sweet malts, and a pinch of chocolate maybe.
The taste is sweet malts with a dry finish. The finish is a little strong, maybe something to do with the 7.5 ABV.
I like the creamy feel with the dry finish that lasts for only a moment. I keep wanting to go back for another sip, now it's gone. There is one more left and I think two would be plenty at one sitting.
I think this is a good Schwarzbier.

I started drinking this one rather warm from the start since my refrigerators are all full.
Look:, ok nothing special
Smell: Smells like a double bock, brown sugar, roast, molasses?
taste: smooth and slightly sweet. roasted malt, molasses, brown sugar, and has a little bit of a spice/anise flavor, maybe even some dark fruit. hint of smoke. some dry chocolate comes thru towards the finish. No Coffee notes.
fell: it's good but not great
I dig it, A stealthy summer beer. This limited is usually released in May/June. I don't care for the new label /packaging design.

I'm thinking this is Capital's best beer these days. It seems to hold up better with longer fridge life.
I will give it a 4.12/5 today.

Pours a shiny pitch black color. Thin off-white head dissipates quickly leaving nothing but a thin ring of foam along the outside of the beer.
Nose has notes of cocoa, vanilla, roasted malts, with a hint of sweetness peaking through on the nose.
Taste follows the nose with a nice array of roasted malts, cocoa, bakers chocolate, vanilla and toffee. A hint of earthy bittering hops with some lingering char comes through on the back end. Slight chocolatey sweetness comes through.
Feel is medium bodied, bright vibrant carbonation. Almost too much carbonation. Cocoa like finish - somewhat powdery.
Overall a good schwarzbier - the "imperial" aspect doesn't really do much here - its got a bit more oomph, but not much more than the better traditional examples.
