A: Light brown in color, thin layer of light head, quite clear - 3.50, S: Initial whiff has a strong cacao and powered chocolate milk mix though the nose fades relatively quickly, faint fudge and candied dates, some roasted grains, no real hops that I can perceive - 3.00, T: Medium roasted malt on the palate, soft coffee, noticeable earthy hop bite - likely one of the nobles, a bready sweetness is present along with some chocolates - 3.75, M: Medium bodied - 3.50, D: All around a very drinkable beer - 3.50

12 oz bottle in a Sierra Nevada Imperial Pint. No date, 5.4% ABV.

A - Dark, deep amber brown with a good bone two-finger head. Superb retention with a nice collar of lace. The foam stayed til the last sip too!

S - The aroma has mild toasted malts with a bigger hop nose than anything. A touch of light citrus with the floral aroma. A low caramel sweetness behind the hops. An unimpressive start.

T - The hops are once again more prominent. The water posses a mineral aspect to it I'm not particularly fond of in this beer. Low malt flavor and a touch of sweetness with the hop finish of floral and grassy flavor.

M - It feels creamy and smooth with a nice level of carbonation to give the finish a crisp feel that compliments the dryness. A good feeling dark.

D - A decently rounded beer that really lacks panache. It's ok overall and would be a fine six-pack to purchase but I find it a mediocre tasting beer. Good drinkability steers this beer towards a session dark.

A pretty good dark beer. I like most dark beers and I'd take it over others but it's not one I'm going to get often.
Look is dark brown with a head that reduces to a cap and sticks around to the end.
Smell is pretty much roasted malt.
Taste is all bitter chocolate mellows a little as it warms. I don't really get anything else.
Feel very carbonated and medium body.
Drink a very drinkable beer I could easily down a 6 pack.

Bought a single of this at 3 Cellars when I realized that I'd not yet tried quite a few Capital beers. And it was pretty decent but not far above average; there's a reason there's not a lot of buzz (for good or bad) about this brewery. Still, I enjoyed it, and if my options were limited I'd be happy to have it again.

This is a good looking beer. Nice deep red color, sparkling body, and good sturdy/sticky head formation in good quantity. Aroma is some light caramel. Flavor is a little sweet (like a sweet sweat flavor, but not unpleasant) up front, followed by some not over-powerin caramel maltiness in the body, and a bit of bitterness at the finish. Nice. Mouthfeel is OK, but just a tick on the watery side. Still, nice.

This is a pretty drinkable and approachable beer that won't blow your socks off, but is nothing to sneeze at either. I'd have it again.

Appearance – This is a medium brown in color with a nice, moderate and stubborn German head. It’s a brownish-white and never did go all the way down until I started drinking it.

Smell – This has a very faint malt aroma that smells like lightly toasted whole grain bread.

Taste – The malts come out bigger at the taste and lose much of that toasty quality. There’s more of a bitter unsulphored molasses flavor now with some dark sugars.

Mouthfeel – This is light-bodied and smooth with a mildly bitter malty finish.

Drinkability – This went down well enough. It was quite uneventful, which is a plus for the style.

Pours clear dark brown with ruby highlights. Head is thick and soapy, leaving a thick ring as it dissipates.

Aroma is roasted dark grain, and a hint of chocolate.

Taste is roasted dark grain with a touch of dark fruit sweetness. Finishes mildly dry with a lingering charred dark grain bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied.

Overall a decent Munich Dunkel. Good bit of roasted malt flavor.
