A - Hazy straw color with a large white foamy head. Should be a lot clearer than it is.
S - Strong corn aroma with a small hint of noble hops.
T - The corn aroma continues in the flavor. Very one sided, and too sweet. Hop presence should be stronger and more complex.
M - Clean and crisp, but there's an astringent finish from the corn flavor.
O - Very forgettable if not off-putting. There are much better pilsners on the shelves.

A - Pours hazy golden with a frothy white head. No lacing.

S - Wet grain, grassy hops, mineral yeast.

T - Noble hops combined with a honey kissed, bready malt, some lemon and wet grass, clean grain on the back half.

M - Creamy wet body turns semi-dry on the finish.

A good drinker. This isn't breaking the mold, smooth and quite tasty.

Appearance: I like my pilsners to be clear and golden and this one is honey-colored and cloudy; otherwise, it is a decent looker with a nice cap that leaves clumps of lace behind

Smell: The minerals in the water jump out, along with hints of sulphur and grassy hops; bready underneath

Taste: Bready malts, up front, with a growing grassy hop and sulphur character developing by mid-palate; after the swallow, the flavor profile is joined by a sweet hint of honey

Mouthfeel; Medium body with moderate carbonation; lacks crispness

Overall: A number of interesting aspects to this pilsner but it also is lacking in terms of its hop profile and mouthfeel

Thanks, chocosushi, for the opportunity

Into a narrow stange glass, Capital Pilsner pours a brilliant straw gold, with a billowing sticky mass of foam on top. The head slowly settles to about a fingers width eventually, but not before coating the glass with delicate lacing. Looks great, like a very traditional pils judging by the look of it.

Soft floral and grass notes segue into a sweet doughy biscuit aroma, fresh and clean, some light minerals also.

Lightly malty biscuit flavors, trace hop florals, very low level bitterness in the dry aftertaste. Clean with a soft feel, not especially biting or crisp, but flavorful. Overall it's a winner, worth sessioning at summer bbq's or by the pool.

12 oz -> Pint

A ~ Dark Straw

S ~ Yeastbread, moss, prairie grass, musk

T ~ Malt, Caramelized onions, English bitter hops, leaves, fresh wheat toast, sour yeast... little oak smokiness as it warms.

M ~ Peppery complexity, goods bittering on palette, best ice cold

D ~ A good beer for the Summer, would not drink all the time but better than alot of American Pils I've had. I like the sour trait as well.

Appearance - Light yellow. Some haze. Well carbonated. Short white fizzy head - not persistent.

Smell - Moderate pale malt. Not picking up any hops.

Taste - Moderately strong pale malt that is quickly balanced by a hearty lemony bitterness. A little bit of a sour aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Light and very crisp.

Overall - Light and refreshing, but not tasteless. A good quality pilsner, if that's what you're looking for.

Pours a pale yellow color with a nice head that is well retained and leaves some lace. The aroma is plenty of fresh hay with some nice sweet floral maltiness and a bit of good if mild noble hop note. The flavor is plenty of herbal hoppiness, very clean with a overall dry character. Very crisp and easy to drink, but plenty bitter. The maltiness comes through with a mild toastiness and a bright but dry bready character. The palate is nice, this drinks very easily and it should but there is enough sharpness in there to give it a very pleasant mouthfeel. I'm glad I got this relatively fresh. I very glad Capital beer has come back to Iowa. I missed it.

12 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass. 4.7% ABV, 0700 on the neck.

A - Very lightly hazy, this brew pours a pale straw yellow color with a firm stark white head. Good retention eventually leads to thick lace coating the glass.

S - Touches of lemongrass spice up the German pils aroma that's rich with pilsner malts, a soft mineral hint and moderate noble hops finishes it up. A touch of corn-chip comes through faintly in the back.

T - Hard mineral water is the base for this brew, letting pilsner malts take over briefly before switching to a little citrus note with noble hops.

M - Crisp and light-bodied, it's a hard pilsner with a moderately high carbonation finish and crisp refreshment. Just above average though.

D - Good drinkability from another nice Capital lager. Has good qualities but needs a little work. The lemongrass hint in the nose is nice.

Reviewed from notes.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Appearance is straw yellow. Very transparent with a white head with good lasting power. Nose is a bit grainy with some floral characteristics and a bit of an herbal, earthy quality. Taste is light noble hops with grain. Feel is light and crisp and this drinks quite well overall.

A- Medium golden-yellow with a one-fingered head that recedes after a minute or two. Minimal lacing left.

S- Grassy with some lemon zest. Some spiciness perhaps.

T- Some noble hops here but nothing overpowers. Grass/bread. Just an easy drinker all the way around.

M- Clean, crisp...very pleasant mouthfeel.

D/O- What a refreshing offering from Capital. Consider me pleasantly surprised after too many "misses" from them recently.

A golden, transparent brew with a less than substantial head. This one looks like the average lager minus a large, frothy head.

Big noble hop aroma...and I mean big. Very spicy, so American noble hops? Or just a shit load of imported nobles. I'm thinking something like Hallertauer, something spicier than Saaz. Malt is low, which it should be, and the yeast and everything is very clean. Smells better than some imported pilsners. I'm looking at you Kalnapilis.

A sweet, light honey maltiness with super bready hops. Yeast is clean, no DMS or any other off flavors. A little bitterness in the finish, though still quite crisp.

Super crisp with a nice bitter bite in the finish with a satisfying dry pucker at the end. Once again, clean.

A satisfying garten brau. I could drink ALL of these.

A-Golden color with a one finger white head.

S-Grassy hops with a grainy note.

T-Bitter, grassy hops upfront with light malt and a dry, bitter finish.

M-Drying and light mouthfeel. Light-bodied with low carbonation for the style.

D-Easy drinking and I appreciate the low carbonation, but otherwise to style. The low carbonation plays into the great drinkability on this one.

S - Sweet bready malts with some spicy noble hops.

T - Grainy malt with spicy, herbal and grassy noble hops. A touch vegetal.

M - Light with high carbonation almost giving it a tart flavor.

D - A decent easy drinking pilsner.

12 ounce twist off topped bottle poured into a pilsener glass. Looks like there is a new label for this beer that is different than the pictured above.

The German Pils pours a clear straw golden color with a quick dissolving head that leaves no lacing. Aromas are mostly breads and grains. No sweetness is noticed but some hop characteristics. Smell is mediocre at best. Quaff has plenty of doughs and a slight presence of malts. Sort of watery, sort of plain, nothing special. Mouthfeel is watery and has a dry finish. I may be biased on this since it is not my favorite style but I'm not sure I can handle more than 1 of these at a time. Just not much too any of the characteristics. Pretty straight forward beer with an okay drinkability.

A fairly recent addition to the Oklahoma beer market, here's hoping they send some of their stronger stuff in the future...

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of fluffy ivory colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Grassyness & not much else...

T: Grassyness, soapyness & breadyness & some mineral dryness. More soapyness & crackery dryness as this warms. Finishes with much grassyness & soapyness, perhaps too much

MF: Light/medium bodied, light carbonation & pretty good balance

Pretty drinkable, but not terribly interesting, but clean enough that I could do 3 or 4 while watching a game if pressed. A bit more malt & hops is in order to hold my interest. Come on Capital, send us bocks & dopples please!

No longer the "Special" Pilsner, but with the tagline: "Our Original Garten Brau."

A -- Hazy golden color with a thick, off-white head. Just a little too hazy for a German lager.

S -- Spicy and mildly citric noble hops up front with some sweet, bready malts peeking through - very nice.

T -- Hmm. Somewhat tart up front with some off vegetal character in-between, but some nice bready malts following up at the end.

M -- Light body with a crisp mouthfeel and dry finish.

D -- Drinkability is okay, if you aren't expecting the usual precision lager from this brewery -- I'm a bit disappointed.

Poured from a 12 once bottle into a small pils glass.

Pours a light straw with perfect clarity. Head is minimal and fizzy and recedes to a film. Leaves a thin ring.

Aroma is crystal malt and floral hops. Aroma of noble hops and bright husky grain. Aroma is clean and relatively pronounced.

Flavor is light malt followed by floral hops. Middle hops become fruity and the malt flattens out to a thicker flavor, slightly sweet like honey. Hops are in good balance with the malt and bitter the beer ever so slightly. Finishes dry and slightly bitter.

Mouthfeel is thin and with the aggressive carbonation cuts the grain completely. A slight burn on the tongue as the palate is left dry.

Nice pils, I would say a very competent example.

Light straw in color with a finger of white head that turns into some light lacing.

Herbal/floral hops in the nose leading to a nice bitter and crisp pilsener. Hops have plenty of bite on the palate exhibiting herbal, minty, and spicy flavors. Malt is crisp and clean. Finishes nice and dry.

A solid pilsener.

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass.

Pours a honey golden with a quickly dissolving inch of white fizzy head. The aroma is pilsner malts with a nice balance of spicy, flowery hops. The flavor is sweet malt upfront with a slight hop flavor and no bitterness. Its light-medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. I really enjoy the balance in this beer, it makes for easy and pleasurable drinking.

This is some damn good beer. Deep, clear golden with some darker reddish hues. Smell is clean, spicy herbal hoppy, with some sweet fruity characteristics. Clean, dry grainy bready up front with a sharp, perfectly balanced bitterness. Lots of carbonation that helps carry the flavors around. This is a beer that I could easily spend the day with. This blows every yellow import I have had out of the water. Not one single off or unpleasant flavor. Squeaky clean. It would be a very good summer beer. Or winter beer for that matter. It's good. Drink some.

Pours a clear, golden color. 3/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of yeast, hops, citrus, and some pale malt. Smells very good for a pilsner. Fits the style of a German Pilsner. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of yeast, citrus, pale malt, and hops in the finish. Wow, this is a really refreshing and full bodied pilsner. I like the flavors imparted by the addition of citrus and hops to this pilsner.

I picked up a 6-pack of this from Friar Tucks in IL, $9.99. Honestly I loved the Bavarian Lager so I thought this would also be good:

The beer is crystal clear, pale golden colored, minimal head with no retention and little lace. I get some light grass and hops spice in the nose, otherwise mostly fresh bread. The taste is bready and spicy, a little metallic and bitter. Not really anything too exceptional but maybe appropriate for a German Pilsner. Average body, lots of carbonation, easy to drink but not exceptional by any measure. I expected more after the Bavarian Lager and Autumnal Fire but maybe it's hard to attain too much within the pilsner style (not my favorite). I'll keep trying their beers as I find them, they do seem to approach German styles with conviction.

The beer pours a pale yellow color with a slight haziness initially, but clears after it warms up. The white colored head develops to about a 1 inch layer, and quickly receded to a small bubbly mat.

My initial impression on the aroma is noble hops, followed by a mild sweetness and a touch of butter.

The flavor consists of a biscuit malt profile, backed up quite well by the spicy hop character. Clean and simple. Although there are some slight buttery off flavors.

A nice light bodied, quite drinkable pilsner. The classic flavors are there, some minor flaws with the chill haze and hint of diacetyl keeps this beer from scoring too high, however.

12 oz. bottle into a pils glass

Pours a hazy golden color with a one inch white head. It sinks to a skim and leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is pretty weak overall, there's light grainy notes with a decent hoppy character that is spicy and grassy.

Taste has a grainy malt flavor with slight biscuit notes followed by hops that join in the middle. Spicy, grassy, and herbal, typical noble hop character.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, the usual clean lager character with a crisp bite.

This was a pretty good Pilsner. There's definitely better examples out there but pretty good for an American version.
