Capital Brewery brewed the first batch of beer, a pilsner, in the spring of 1986 and was founded to brew traditional German style lager beer in America. It has branched out to include American style ales, barrel aged beers, and now brews four distinct IPA’s.
Capital is committed to sustainability and installed solar electric panels in April of 2014. Spent grain is provided to feed cattle raised by an area farmer. The Capital Brewery Bike Club was formed in 2009 and now over 100 riders meet regularly at the Brewery every Tuesday and Thursday when the weather is pleasant.

The Capital Beer Garden is open April through October and often hosts live music as well as numerous public and private events. It is known as ‘Middleton’s Backyard’ and typically attracts over 1500 patrons on Fridays, May through September.

The indoor Bier Stube is open during the winter months (approximately Nov- April) and is also available for private events. Tours of the facility may be scheduled on its website.

Visited on the 4th of July in the early evening. The Taproom & gift shop were closed but the beer garden, which is quite large, was open. Great mixed crowd, from seniors to kids and families, along with the expected millennials. There was band playing, adding to the fun vibe. The beer selection was OK, not as extensive as other breweries I have visited but it was a holiday so it might have been a reduced staffing situation. I had the Mutiny IPA - nothing to write home about; and the King George Scotch Ale, which was good. I would enjoy coming back when the place was fully open, but the beer garden alone is worth the trip!

Note on the vibe - I was only inside due to the 15 degree weather outside. I see very clearly that they have a really nice looking beer garden. I just think the over all atmosphere is lacking on the inside. The hallway to the tap room however is pretty neat because it shows the massive amount of awards they've acquired through the years.

Visited the brewery back in 2009.

It made for a fun little side-visit in-between the tour of the old Huber (now-Minhas) Brewery in Monroe and the nearby New Glarus brewery.

The tour itself was fun if a bit perfunctory; No brewing or packaging operations were taking place on my visit -- unlike at the other two, nearby breweries. It was really just a spin through the building and grounds/beer garden (very nice beer garden with live music!) along with a couple of small samples served in itty-bitty logo-printed "mugs" -- tasting glasses the size of shot glasses! Not bad for $3 (or whatever nominal fee I paid), but as Capital had for years been participating in a significant program of alternating proprietorship with Stevens Point Brewing, I really wish that I had asked a little about that arrangement -- it would've been much more educational for me in the long run.

Capital is a solid brewery, and I will always enjoy re-visiting their brands.
