L: deep dark brown blanketed by 1" of dark tan foam with good retention
S: coffee, chocolate, alcohol, dark dried fruit and fruit
T: Chocolate, coffee and alcohol lead the flavors supported by stone fruit, dark dried fruits, caramel, dark sugars, grain, spice, traces of cinnamon, and a mild bitterness
F: creamy, big and chewy with medium soft carbonation
O: This big, rich imperial stout and is surprisingly drier than its barrel aged cousins and is a perfect beer for sitting inside in front of a fire while watching the snow

Finally opened this from 2015 so 8 years old . Pours a dark black color with a a dark matcha head . Smell is roasted malt whiskey , wood and roasted malts . Taste follows the nose . While not a great BA stout was very impressed with carbonation and barrel presence .

750ML black-waxed bottle picked up at the release last weekend. Wanted to have this one first for a base to judge the barrel versions. Split with my wife.
One tip to Insight: only use a half-pound of wax & you could probably save a buck or two per bottle…after winning that battle with no personal damage, I find G.W. is black as an imperial stout & more lively than many. Doesn’t smell great, dominated by roast that turns into scorch. Eh.
Gravity Well isn’t what I was hoping for to wrap up Thanksgiving. Big sweet malts provide a framework & draped on top is powdered cocoa, roast, burnt roast, with an unnerving herbal hop jolt & a bit of jarring fruit right at the end. Dry. A taster of this would have been plenty.
I’ve enjoyed Insight’s offerings on tap, but this missed the mark. The tastes don’t gel, but batter one another, & the palate, without mercy. I hope the barrels smooth the variants out. Decent.

Tasted on tap at Insight Brewing.
A - Pours black with a small tan head.
S - I get molasses on the nose.
T - Flavor is awesome. Not as sweet as the nose. I'm getting dark fruits.
M - Mouth feel is medium, carbonation is low.
O - Let this warm, don't drink cold. So good I bought a growler to go.

The smooth of this stout is the most memorable part of this beer.
The chocolate and the cognac barrel used most likely contributed to this. There was very little head when poured into my tulip glass. I could taste the toffee but no vanilla.
