Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger light brown head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with mild char, bourbon, chocolate and mildly tart cherry and rye tartness, although not much rye flavor. Flavor is dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, light bourbon, tart cherry, oak. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nice rye and cherry influenced stout with a solid milk chocolate malt base. Tartness in stouts is not my style and I hesistated when I got this, but after an hour in line, it seemed the right thing to do. Both tart elements are handled well here and add an enjoyable layer of flavor, but the chocolatey, bourbon base was so nice I found myself wishing that I could fully enjoy that. The base stout is excellent and deserves the love it has received. The body is slightly thinner than I expected from such a big stout, but this does have some time on it, so that may be a factor. Enjoyable, but not quite to my palate. It makes me look forward to the coffee variant that I will be trying soon. I look forward to Holy Mountain's next stout offering, especially if it is available without lines and time expenditure.

This is the real deal. I really enjoyed this beer. Wow, better than Goose Island Cherry Rye. Well done.
