Excellent head production, but mediocre retention at best - surprising for the style. Body is slightly hazy due to particulate out of suspension, although the base is pale golden straw yellow, and very clear. Despite the particulate, you can still read through the body, even in a relatively large glass.

Grassy and slightly floral nose; plenty of aromatic hops, but little bite behind them, all riding atop a white bread and doughy malt base. Smells quite nice.

Flavor follows the nose: tasty but flawed. A touch too sweet, and lacking any real bitter bite, the result is just too syrupy. Malt base is spot-on Helles, it's just lacking in balancing noble hops. Mildly grainy pale malts.

Slick on the palate; long wet finish.

Nothing about this beer is bad; there are no off-flavors. Nothing about it really stands out, and it's lacking in balance. Enjoyable enough, especially in a 12 oz serving (or less), and certainly better than the standard AALs on tap around the US.

Clear golden pour with a finger of white foam, visible carbonation. Smell is typical helles: mild grains with hints of honey, pilsner malts, floral hops, and german yeast. Taste however gives these ingredients from the nose a chance to star with more depth, invoking flavors of white bread, grass, honeycomb, and slight apple. Feel is medium to light bodied, bready, higher carbonated causing to be thinner, and smooth. The wife loved it. Goes great with pizza

This is a nicely done Helles, bright straw yellow, beautiful foamy head with good lacing on the glass, perfect carbonation, taste is a very mild malty Helles, very laid back hop, not as sweet as others may like. Tradition in the good sense of the word.

Consumed 12/3/20
Brewer's Advent Calendar 2020 #1

Pale golden yellow, crystal clear, pours with a medium-large head, retains a small cap, leaves some lacing
Seems more like an American macro than a Helles, as I am not getting enough Munich malt - pale grains, cereal grains, light bread, maybe some crackers, maybe some corn, light grass, lightly musty aroma, strange fruity sweetness (rather than a light grainy sweetness I would expect)
Light body, mostly crisp, medium carbonation

Am I even going to bother reviewing these 24 beers? Probably. This one is a decidedly average Helles-adjacent lager. It does not quite fit the style, but it's not bad.

Light bodied with at least average carbonation. Overall a nice feel making for an easy to get down type of beer.
Aroma is grain,.malt , cereal, whole grain bread, slightly floral and earthy.
Taste is mostly grain, cereal and bread followed by malt. Slight bitter bite matched with an even lighter sweetness.
Overall its not world class but I did t expect that from beer in a box from Costco. Yet it had a very nice flavor, easy to drink, and I would try this again. Also went very well with food

Beer #1 in the 2020 Costco Advent Beer Calendar. Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours clean straw with a small white head. Smells of sweet grain, pretty bland but not that uninteresting. Tastes of sweet grain with slight fruit notes, good fullness for a Helles. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Like many here, I too got this as a Costco 2020 beer advent calendar, and I actually thought this beer was surprisingly good. Much more flavor than your average American lager, looks great, clean, clear, white head, nice aroma, and a little bitter bite up front with a smooth finish.

L:. Pours bright straw yellow with a small white head and no lacing on the glass.

S:. A strong sweet apple mixed, with a slight vegetable and some floral hops, aroma is ok but doesn't get me very excited for what is next.

T:. Sweet apple, followed a stronger floral bitterness than I expected. I find this one too sweet for the style.

F:. Light body, easy drinking

O:. Not a big fan of this one, it just tastes like a cheap beer.

Poured a see-through straw gold body with decent head that live leaves patches around the glass. Typical lager aroma with floral/grassy hops and dry with touch of pills malt. Light body, real light, like slick and almost watery, rather thin hop taste but has a mild sweetness to it. Good session beer that is probably best enjoyed in summertime on a hot day or at the ballpark (beats an American macro hands down). I tend to go for dryer, crisper lagers, so this one was ok to try but not for me.

16oz can, first beer out of a 24 beer advent calendar from Costco. "EXP 2022/05"

Pours clear light yellow with an initially large head that collapses pretty fast to a clumpy ring and a shrinking cap. Not a lot of visible carbonation. Smell is yeasty lager funk and some grainy sweetness, maybe some light lemon and grass.

Taste is heavy on the yeasty lager funk. Still lots of grain, maybe some husk characteristic. Grassiness comes out more.

Mouthfeel is medium, dry, a bit too still. Overall, it's not bad. I'd drink more of it in a party atmosphere, but it's not a beer I'd feel a need or desire to pay close attention to.

Merrily, I got the Beer advent calendar and peeking at the side of it I can see I'm in for weeks of treats since almost all the beers featured are ones I've never tried before and likely can't get easily in the States.
This one is a nice beginning, a smooth and inoffensive Helles, and almost pristine Helles with the very faintest of back-flavor after it pours down your gullet.

Beer #1 in the 2020 Costco Beer Advent Calendar.

This one pours a very clean golden yellow color, with a small foamy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells mildly floral, with some light sweetness, and a touch of grain.

This is better than I expected, but it's nothing crazy. The smooth floral character works well for me, but it lacks that crisp bite on the back end that I really look for in the style.

This is quite smooth, and very clean, with a very nice drinkability to it. It feels industrial and utilitarian.

This is a good enough start to the calendar, but it doesn't exactly inspire thought that any of these beers will be certified bangers.

Looks a lot like a typical American lager, but tastes a lot better. Mild carbonation, so you don't get much smell. Nothing hoppy about this beer, so if anything is to smell, its the lightly roasted grains. It's best attribute, is that it has a smooth, but no overpowering surprise flavors. This seems as traditional as it gets. Very refreshing. I would call it my yard work beer, but that may be under rating it. Maybe it would be better as a floating down the river on an innertube beer, for that hot relaxing day, where nothing important needs to get done. I say that, because I think it would be easy to drink a lot of this beverage before you realize it.

Bought in the 2020 Kalea Advent calendar. (This is one of the five new brewers from the 2019 calendar... change is good when it comes to something like Advent.)

Flotzinger's Hell definitely Looks the part of the crystal clear blonde. Smells are no different, mostly a malt beverage. Tastes are slightly better as the lager is so clean that Flotzinger must have followed the traditional methods of long lagering. In the mouth, there are sufficient bubbles to have this with lunch.

My brewer review didn't start too good as I gave up trying to find the English button. So I watched the 6 minute video in German of this very, very Bavarian family-owned brewery of several centuries. (And it occurred to me that one of the advantages of reviewing American micros is that the history lesson is usually only one generation and often only a few years.) Be that as it may, Flotzinger's video tells me that they are a classic Bavarian brewer. While there is value in that, it sure makes for a long story. I'm glad I tried Flotzinger and I'm glad that Kalea included them. The Kalea calendar needs more "newbies".

From the can contained in the Costco Advent Calendar, it pours a clear golden color with a modest, soon reducing head of white. Lacing as you enjoy the beer. In the nose, It smells light and fresh with a touch of malt. In the mouth, the same. Easy drinking, nondescript.

Pours a crystal clear golden color with a spongy, big head.

Smells of soft wheat, fresh baked bread, rye flour and grassy, wet hops.

Has a lighter body among a lower carbonation, letting the beer appear unnecessary watery on the tongue.

Tastes of caramel malts, lighter burned hickory wood and overly sweet corn syrup. The beer turns watery then, thin with a lingering sweetness and nothing else.

This is pretty hard to drink, the balance is off in this on so many levels. Avoid, if possible.

filtered clear pale yellow with coarse bubbles. Foam is white, fine bubbled with some stability and lacing
noble hop aroma and pilsener malt, clean, no diacetyl
very well balance of Pilsener malt sweetness and gentle bitterness that is even a bit lingering
appropriate medium to thin body and a carbonation that bites a bit
Nicely balanced Helles and perfectly brewed, just a bit on the hoppy side

I blind tasted this one during a tasting session in the Mug (a pub in Middelburg, The Netherlands).

A - A super clear and almost no head, only a tiny ring of foam against the glass. It looks more like water than anything else. Actually I should give it a 4.5 or a 5 for appearance, but than the taste should be held up.

S - A little smoky, a little dirty sweet and some banana.

T - Smoked malts, light hop presence, overall a bit bitter and sweet.

M - Good, does what it should do - the carbonation is medium.

O - Easy to drink, but really not special in any kind of way.

It pours a light gold with a fluffy white head that leaves some lacing.

The smell is lemony and malty. The scent is very light though.

It is a decent flavor. Light and unoffensive. The hops provide a nice brightness and the malt is tasty. The mouthfeel is excellent.
