While my experience at the taproom/dining location was god awful, the Funkatorium was great. Plenty of rowdy people and came on the perfect day, near Halloween and everyone was dressed up which made it even more fun.

The quality is just superb, but this was pre-ABInBev so I'm not sure how it is now.

The service staff HERE (not at the taproom, that was fucking awful service) was amazing.

The selection is jaw dropping.

This place is a must visit when visiting Asheville! They have a large variety of sours on tap and bottles for onsite consumption. They didn’t have much to choose from for food. Said they were going through a transition period on the menu. They have 15+ bottles to take home. The best part is seeing this rows and rows of barrels!!

This is the place that changed my mind about sours.
Funkatorium couldn't be better titled. A dark, dank, funky long room/bar connected to the warehouse
where they hold all the barrels, aging their fantastic beers. Plus in a hip part of the town.

Sours directly fresh from the barrels. You could really taste the fruits way more than the bottled versions IMO.
Sour but with a variety of different flavors at different moments while hitting the palate. All kinds of stuff on tap, some
normal standard releases, and lots of funkatorium only. If you love sours, you must visit Asheville

Great place to visit while in the town of Asheville. Cozy wooden accents all over in the tasting bar. I tried about 6 beers while I was there. White angel, a sour with grapes, was my favorite by far. They were playing great music and the staff was very nice and knowledgeable. I was quite hungry but the food selection was small and not very filling but delicious. Plenty of options for beer to go with a lot of merchandise options as well. Located in an area where many other breweries are within walking distance which makes it really nice. Overall a great place to visit in North carolina.

Definitely the place to go for sour beers. I wanted something different and very strong so this was the perfect place. We got there at right as they were opening on Thursday afternoon and there was a line waiting to get in. If you want a change and several bottled beers to go, this is the place in Asheville.

Vibe: The place is pretty dark and it has a few long wooden benches, a taller table on one end of the bar, and a roped off booth at the other. There is an outside area to sit which is pretty nice. The overall interior aesthetic matches the open view of the barrels stored off to the side. There isn't much decor but it really showcases the important part of the building which is the barrel house. Unfortunately the staff really kills the vibe of the place. There were one or two that were nice but most of them seemed depressed or angry about something. They were wandering around frowning, looking sad...looked a lot like a goth bar. They were snappy or short when discussing beers as if it wasn't worth their time. I overheard more than one employee make rude comments about patrons at the bar and at tables. That alone really killed the vibe and I didn't want to sit around hearing them talk trash while they passed each other.

Quality: The quality of the beer and how it is served is pretty good. Flights are served in a nice looking wood arch with mini snifters. I didn't see any coasters and I was never offered water or any sort of palate cleanser.

Service: Quite simply the service stinks. Interactions were rude and snappy. They won't ask you what you thought of the beer or if you would even like a full pour. It felt like I was overstaying my welcome just by walking through the door.

Selection: They have a very good selection of their own sour beers.

I would recommend going to their pub location down the street instead. I had a polarizing experience there and they carry a huge selection of sours.
