Pours all black with a small, foamy, dark brown head.

Smells of maple syrup, licorice and fudge, together with a subtle alcoholic warmth in the nostrils. Quite sweet on the nose, with some balancing coffee roast and charred earth, taming sweet licorice and marzipan.

Has a very velvet, smooth mouthfeel with a whole lot of whipped cream, making the body of this heavier than expected - nice.

Tastes of toffee, dry coffee, fudge and a huge amount of milk chocolate, enriched by a note of cinnamon. Gets incredibly creamy during mid palate, perfectly balanced between sweet and roasty dry, with more scented earth and slowly evolving bitter chocolate, blending perfectly into matured, grassy hops. Finishes with cream covered caramel, more licorice and a nice amount of bitter chocolate, which coats the tongue for a long while.

This is lovely throughout, with an incredibly smooth mouthfeel and unforseen spiciness amping up the chocolate.

Poured to a teku glass.

A: The body is pitch black with a beige to brown head, showing a one finger thickness. After a couple minutes it got smaller but shows really good retention.
S: The aroma is filled with coffee, roasted malts and just a small hint of vanilla. The aroma isn't that pure of coffee as a RIS should be but still, it's very good.
T: The taste begins with medium sweetness from the coffee, running away to the coffee bitterness. In the middle, there's some tartness incoming from a thing I can't name.
M: Body is medium high. Carbonation is perfect with a very velvety touch. Alcohol is noticed but it's just the way it is.
O: This is a very interesting RIS. The aroma is fantastic just as velvety body that has a very cool carbonation for a high ABV beer.

Pitch-black, with a minimal (half-finger) mocha head that vanished almost instantly. Roasted coffee and some chocolate aromas, but with some fruitiness lurking in the background; seems to give it a candied licorice aroma to it. There is even a hint of fresh, juicy melon, not unlike the inside of a cantaloupe. Certainly different for a RIS, but a welcomed twist on the 'normal' aromas. Only knock on the otherwise fantastic smell is a slightly solvent (turpentine?) afterthought. At first sip, it lacks substance. Bland at the front, with a roasty mid palate, and a bitter ending. Again with some solvent flavors, though more expressive than in the aroma. Thin body and low carbonation, finishing semi-dry. Overall, a bit disappointing considering some of the IPAs of theirs that are really nice.

The colour is jet black (120 EBC); the finger thick brown head sinks quickly into a thin lid leaving lo lacing.

The smell is sweet with some clean bitterness, some sour hints and lots of fresh brewed coffee. Hints of metal, chloride and dried fruits in the background.

The taste is strong and balanced. Lots of roasted notes, mostly coffee. Sweet fruit candy, some toffee. Medium to full body. The aftertaste got growing notes of alcohol, charcoal, carambola and dry coffee. The finish is roasted and harsh.

The carbonation is medium strong, the small sharp bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is semi-smooth and quite dry.

A rather average RIS with an odd harshness in the aftertaste.
