Deep black colour, reduced foam.
Smells like cake, marzipan, spices.
The taste is characterized by licorice, caramel, coffee, roasted barley and cloves. Dry and bitter aftertaste with some burnt sugar also.
Really good. Excellent quality/price ratio.

Tap @ The Penguin Bar, Bilbao - Pours jet black with a small tanned head. Medium carbonation. Aroma - dark stoned fruits, coffee, roasted malts, sherry/port alcohol feel. Taste - sweet, sherry feel, roasted malts, stoned fruits, coffee, chocolate. Very nice Baltic porter.

330 ml bottle, Bottles and Books, Bristol - As above with noticeable smoky overtones and nice long bitter finish with some alcoholic warmth. Nice to return to this ale.

Pitch black pour, thick, with a perfect coffee-coloured head with modest retention. Smells of roasted malts, smoke, dark chocolate, coffee and sour cherries. The taste follows with the same notes of cherries and dark chocolate, but with a healthy dose of lactose added to the mix. Thick mouthfeel and a sweet aftertaste. A bit too sweet for my taste, but luckily not overwhelming.

330ml bottle, day 15 of the 2016 Craft BeerAdvent calendar - apparently this one's odd name translates to 'night' in Estonian. Cool.

This beer pours a solid black abyss, with the barest of red cola basal 'edges', and three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly brown head, which leaves some low on the horizon landfall lace around the glass as it slowly but surely sinks away.

It smells of roasted caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, rich cafe-au-lait, earthy black licorice, some muddled dark orchard fruitiness, and a very minor dose of leafy and sort of perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is sweet caramel malt, biscuity toffee, free range ash, sort of stale cream, medium cocoa powder, day-old coffee grounds, real vanilla extract (so, boozy), a bit of tanned leather, and some plain earthy, weedy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite light in its sort of lazy-seeming frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and rather smooth, with a nice, full creaminess kicking off once things warm up a bit. It finishes off-dry, the lingering char helping moderate all those persistent sweet essences.

Overall, this is a pretty enchanting and beguiling big-boy Porter, with a well-integrated 21-proof wowee sauce contingent. Lots of robust flavours, which makes it a nice wintertime sipper (that works right now), or as a pairing with any of those Yuletide confections floating about.

Black color with brown head. Aroma has roasted malts, even a bit of smoke, umami, dark chocolate and a hint of dark fruits. Taste starts with dark chocolate, rich malts, slightly roast acidity, continues with some booze soaked fruits and finishes with roasted coffee bitterness. Rich body with smooth carbonation. Feels more like a classic russian imperial stout but that's a plus for me.

330 mL bottle. Black with a hint of transparency. Smells of dark fruits, heavy roasted malt, booze, and some dark chocolate. Tastes very sweet, but with a heavy dose of roasted malts that cut the sugars. Boozy and tingly. Dark fruity sweetness. Bitter dark chocolate finish. Heavy. Probably couldn't drink a ton of this, but it's tasty.

Light body with silky palate, very interesting. Major flavour is roast. Can perceive alcohols acidity. Aftertaste not very long and moderately nice. It is good without being awesome.

A- Great looking cap and simple design in the labeling.....the the beer itself has a very dark brown coloration and I see hints of chocolate covered cherry red tinges in the background....the beer is opaque and comes with a lovely leathery tan colored, dense foam head that retains quite well....almost reminds me of a nitro stout. The lacing is good with lots of sticky proteins clinging to the side of the glass and of course its much too hard to tell how the carbonation looks.

S- Heavy chocolate, cocoa, chocolate covered cherry sweetness, Earthy roots (licorice), vanilla char, creamy coffee, slight booze and a finish that lingers with toasted nuttiness, chocolate and black malts, and perhaps just a tinge of hopped bitterness. Superb aromas!

T- The flavors are intense, with the alcoholic nature showing itself on the palate for sure but it is smooth yet sharp on the finish. Black coffee, cocoa, burnt tofee/brown sugar sweetness, some caramel vanilla, black cherry hints, burnt almond, huge toasted biscuit, yeasty creaminess and sticky dried fruits.....it very much lingers on the palate well after the taste....most excellent!

M/O- Full bodied, sticky and oily on the palate, and what I'm very impressed with is the carbonation....it is there, yet very much in the background and reminds me of a nitro stout as far as creaminess goes. The alcohol is very well hidden but I know that this one would catch up on me fast. A highly drinkable brew and very well done. UNBELIEVABLE!!

This one pours a fairly dark inky black, with a very small head, and no lacing.

This smells like caramel, chocolate covered plums, earthy roasted malt, and espresso.

This tastes great. There's some brownie batter, chocolate-covered dark fruit- plums and raisins, some dark caramel, and a slight bitterness.

This is a tiny bit syrupy, but mostly chewy and delicious, with a good level of carbonation.

I think the cognac BA version of this one is better, but this is still very nice.
