Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, berries and a hint of maple with light oxidation. Flavor is dark toasted malt, lactose, dried blueberries, milk chocolate bourbon and light maple. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess; silky mouth feel. The profile is solidly in the milk stout range, with a lightness that is almost like a porter. Flavor is well integrated, although the the berry and maple components are quite light. Moderate, but distinct bourbon, the fruit components of which meld and somewhat overwhelm the blueberry. As with all of this series I've tried, a top notch, if somewhat understated stout with a deft hand at flavor adjuncts. This bottle appears to be a few years old, although it is undated. There is a little oxidation in the aroma, but it has held up well and probably mellowed a bit. Very nice.

Pours a deep dark-brown color with a small top off beige head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, maple, wood and some slight blueberries.
The taste is sweet and malty. Notes of dark chocolate , maple syrup and oak. I also sense some sweetness from the bourbon and some slight fruity notes from the blueberries.
The finish has some slight bitterness allong with the roasted malty background. Aftertaste has a good lenght. A little thin on the body.
Mouthfeel is creamy and oily with a medium carbonation and a medium body.
A really nice and exitinct twist on a imperial stout. Really enjoyable.

A nice dark liquid with a decent head of mud puddle foam, lots of little bubbles in the head and it dissipates quickly down to a nice ring.
The aroma has some of the standard roasty and chocolatey notes but the overpowering initial aroma is a sort of herbal minty-ness to me. Actually smells a bit like a fresh coniferous forest after some rain. Maybe it's the impact of the blueberries? It's interesting and different but a little off putting, a little medicinal.
The taste has a lot more going on though. Rich mocha with a slightly maple tinged sweetness rests comfortably atop a bright forest floor earthiness and bitter berry bite. The familiar blue berry flavor is pretty much only present as the aftertaste but I think that the tannin/herbal/minty bitterness might well be from tart wild berries as well. Very nicely blended fruit flavors and the maple is used so nicely, just a touch at the edges that rounds out an otherwise pretty sharp, roasted malt main event. I finally understand the appeal of blueberry in a stout
Mouthfeel is excellent as usual for these folks. full without getting syrupy
Overall another excellent beer from the folks behind Pohjala. Always soooo expert with their use of flavorings. Yummmm!

Vahtra shows a very dark brownish body.
The maple and blueberries are there for sure. The barrel aging brings woody notes for sure.
Earthy and piney notes are notes.

A real ode to the forest

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt and chocolate notes with light fruity notes with some acidity noticeable. Taste is also a mix of chocolate notes with some bourbon and vanilla, light woody notes with some faint berry notes with light acidity also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation with faint alcohol notes perceptible. Interesting mix of flavours with berry not as present as I was expecting.

Pours jet black with thick, brown head.

Smell is sweet and rich with notes of coffee, chocolate, syrup, berries and brownies.

Taste is powerful and sweet. Notes of coffee, chocolate, oak and hints of maple and blueberries. Strong booziness.

Mouthfeel is medium to full, smooth and well carbonated.

Overall, the booziness lets down what could have been a great stout.
