Pours a thin looking lemonade haze with a decent collar of head that sticks around for the first few sips, dissipating into nothing more than minimal spotty lacing. The smell is nondescript. Possibly some citrus like elements, yet nothing meshes together in a manner that satisfies the olfactory glands to the point of inhaling twice. The taste follows, yet to an even lesser degree. Chalky up front, watery and tasteless mid-to-back palate. It feels like a poor man's attempt at NEIPA, to be honest. I am not in the business of knocking beers, but when you've built a reputation on drinking IPA, and good ones at that, you owe it to the people who value your opinion to be honest. The feel is completely disappointing. Devoid of character, watery, unassuming. Yeah, I'll pass. Glad I only had one can. Cheers.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on December 20, 2019. Highlighting a fresh harvest of Strata hops, Neon Phenom boasts notes of passionfruit, citrus, berry and a little bit of dankness.

Poured from a tall can into a tulip.

The brew is a nice hazy orange gold with superb fluffy head and decent lacing.

The aromas are delicate but solid with tropical and citrus fruit melding with pine and dank notes.

The flavors are excellent. Solid malts at the very beginning and end provide balance to a variety of hop notes. Citrus, floral, grass, dank, and pine all show up.

The brew is not as full as expected and that is a nice thing. A shade more carbonation would take this one to the next level.

Overall, a very nice mixture of sweetness, bitterness, and drying booze. Definitely worth a try.

L: Poured from a growler to a snifter glass. Had a yellowish color and a fairly cloudy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy head that lasted an average amount of time. Below average lacing.

S: A very nice aroma of dank hops, malt, tropical fruit, pine, and citrus fruit.

T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (mostly in the finish; not a huge factor), some tropical fruit (pineapple, for the most part), some light pine notes (just enough), a good shot of hops (more than expected), and some citrus fruit as well (orange, in particular). This is a sharp, well-balanced flavor - a good mix of hoppy bitterness and fruity sweetness.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a smooth, yet dry, finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A solidly made DIPA. Worth a try.

Drekker Neon Phenom Double IPA, 8.4% ABV. Pours hazy yellow with a 3+ finger white head that left little lacing. Nose is light and vague citrus berry. Taste is light pineapple and grapefruit, fairly strong hoppy pine, with moderate bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. The hop bite is sharp.

The lowest I've ever rated a Drekker beer. It's the damn Strata, I swear. BlackStack has done a few with Strata, and they have the same off-taste as well. It's reminiscent of what Lupulin has been doing lately, they were the first ones I noticed whose IPA's had this awful murky stink to them. The strata imparts a kind of murkiness of flavor, which shows up in the look of the beer too. These kinds of beers I'm griping about are less opaque than most top-shelf hazies, yet more murky.. they look more like bad water than a rich HAZE. Perhaps it's not the strata, but that's the only common denominator that I'm aware of between all these murky and stale hazy IPA's. Blackstack's "Thread Count" is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. This one isn't far behind. It's this darker, murky, stale quality that just blankets the beer and leaves it just tasting like bad oranges. It makes it "extra smooth", whoop de doo, but it makes it taste like crap.
It's not good. It steals the show with it's mediocrity, and it's NOT worth $18/4-pack of 16 oz cans. Much unlike the rest of Drekker's line-up. Their "Lizard People" DIPA, which came out in conjunction with this one I believe, was MUCH better and did not have this off-flavor that I'm describing.

Nice beer - nice golden hazy body with a pretty lacy skirt. Smell is great - tropical fruit and pineapple. Taste has a nice progresssion of flavors - starts off with a nice bitter resinous bite, followed by some mango and pineapple. Great mouthfeel, carries the flavors well and allows for some nuance. Nice beer.

Can. White head. Lace. Odd hazy yellow that almost has a neon hue to it.

For 8.4% this is lighter in bodied and lighter in flavor than other hazy ipas. Earthy and a bit floral. Some fruits. Maybe a hybrid between normal ipa and NE ipa. It’s decent. Some bitterness.
