This beer pours a hazy copper color with a creamy head of light tan. The nose is full green citrus hops with some green cinnamon qualities to the hops in the finish. The taste follows the nose, but grows more full. The soft green hop bite has some soft unripe tropical fruit character and a soft hop spice flavor in the finish. The hop flavor is full but there is no hop bitterness in the finish. There is a soft toast malt note that comes through as the beer opens up and some fresh pale malt character to it aswell. There is a gentle fizz to the medium-light mouthfeel and this has a lot of nice depth and character to a well build beer. This is a nice session beer.

Two draft pints at Map Room.
Nice to see this new brewery finally get a beer out in the world for all to try.

Hazy saturated orange color, compact head of white foam that left behind speckled rings of lacing in the glass. Lasting head retention.

Citric aroma of orange and lemon zest and pith, slightly tropical, resinous and hoppy.

Taste is similar, citrus forward and orangey with a lasting resiny bitterness, biscuity pale malt, and a pleasing freshness to it. Light to medium bodied, very dry and crisp. It was very drinkable, and nice enough to have another.

Very solid first impression from this new brewery, looking forward to trying more from them down the road.

11/14: Second time trying this, it seemed a little muted by comparison to the first time, would give it a 3.5. Will try again later and see how it goes.

A very high quality beer, start to finish. I love the hazy orange color, floral aroma and great citrus finish. I am going to clone this beer for darn sure, since they put the grain bill on the bottle, I thought that was really cool!!

22oz Bomber
Binny's Willowbrook

Charlatan has a murky, dirty orange body with brass highlights at the bottom of the glass. Tiny carbonation runs up the sides of the glass in support of the pillow white head. The foam grows easily and settles just as easily to a skimming and fat ring. I will say though, the lacing is nice, nearly 100% coverage.

The nose is interesting. It's maltier than expected adding that English quality mentioned on the label. There's a drizzle of caramel over mild white toast to make up the malt base. A solid dose of orange leads the charge in the hop department, peel, pith, and marmalade. Soft herbals flash here and there, slightly resinous. Seems a little run of the mill unfortunately.

The flavor brightens up a bit from the nose. Some overripe pineapple mingles with the aforementioned orange aspects, hello Citra. A quick flash of apricot pops up mid palate and the finish brings with it a soft herbal resinous. The malt backbone balances is out with big caramel and white toast. Good beer.

I dig the mouthfeel on this beer is right where it should be for a pale ale. The body is moderate in weight with a bubbly, lively carbonation that keeps things moving. The finish dries up quickly and in its wake leaves a soft bitterness on the tongue. Drinkability is high.

The first impression of this beer wasn't that great but the flavor stepped up. It's a flavorful, enjoyable hybrid American/English IPA. Would I buy this again? Not a bottle but I'd try it on draft.

Not your typical APA. A bit on the dark side with a great toasted barley flavor.

Gold to light copper with a fingernail of bright white. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of pale citrus. I'm tasting citrus hops and light malt. The mouth is easygoing, smooth, and crisp.

Boss and I got a 4pck of this from a beer store near his house. It poured a cloudy orangish with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had hints of citrus peel and pine. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. This is very good...highly recommended. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a great beer.

Pours a beautifully crystal clear golden orange and a finger and a half of plump white foam.

Citrus fruit notes of grapefruit, orange, and lemon dances around a slightly sweet toasted malt backbone.

Orange and grapefruit emerge at first sip and linger throughout the swallow, but the toasted malts lend balance, though allows the hops to shine brightly.

Light-bodied, medium carbonation, balanced, smooth, goes down easy.

Overall, this is a solid and easy drinking brew, goes down a little too easy. Well done.

Acquired in beautiful Chicago, IL. Drank out of a Toppling Goliath King Sue teku.

Look: Pours nice transparent amber color with a three finger off white head. Great head retention and lacing.

Smell: Strong pungent sweet citrus, tropical fruit, a hint of grass, a bit of spun sugar, grapefruit.

Taste: Grapefruit and orange rind, lingering grassy flavor, nice biscuit malt.

Look: Medium bodied, coating, good stuff.
