Poured from undated 1/2-liter bottle to a diagonally cut tumbler at approximately 50 degrees F. According to the KF website, the last time they brewed and bottled this was December 2017, so maybe that is this bottle's date.
Dark opaque brownish black body under a tan head.
The smell is unique. Roasted grain is prominent, but there is some sweet earthy note also.
Taste is similar with the astringent malt ruling the profile. Very unique, not sure if its good or bad honestly.
Mouthfeel is light as is the carbonation.
Overall ... an experience. On the fence for sure. I love bitter stouts and porters, but his one is hard to define.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color—only traces of dark brown are visible near the edges of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a half finger high light tan head that died down, leaving specks of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of grainy malts—which I presume must be the spelt—and dark chocolate are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has some bitterness associated with the chocolate malts. Faint bits of roasted malts are also perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The finish leaves your mouth a little dry.
O: This beer is especially flavorful for a porter but the lighter-bodied nature still makes it very easy to drink.

Poured from 500 ml bottle with no visible bottle date.
A: Deep chestnut brown almost black with 1-2 finger light tan head. Decent retention settling to a thin ring and little lacing.
S: Cocoa powder and grainy malts with hints of nuts.
T: Baking chocolate and roasted grains mixed with slight hints of walnuts. Almost a biscuit quality to it.
M: Medium body with average carbonation. Finish is dry and lightly bitter.
O: Solid porter. I enjoy the chocolate notes without bringing big sweetness. Very well done.

On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. As a big barrel-coffee-choco fan I'd hope this would open a new arena of experience. Spelt...spelt! Stuffs been around since forever, so I figure it has to have something going on, right?
If it does, it's not as a flavoring in beer, or at least in this formulation.
I got through the first half of the pint with only a few grimaces, but eventually the rye-notes overkill were too much to bear. The chocolate is there but in the bitterest form. I've worked with chocolate in a number of ways & know that it's intensity needs tempering...literally. Even the smallest amount of sweet may have saved this. Lactose may have helped the body as well as the tastebuds, but it's not my recipe, it's only my opinion.
Thanks for the adventure, but...oh, look a squirrel!

I have just stumbled upon Kent Falls recently and I like what I am finding; what really sticks out about this beer is the spelt- the grainy aroma and flavor is prevalent and plays well with the chocolate aroma and taste; the mouthfeel needs a lot more body however for this to be a complete success
