Notes: With a focus on sessionability, we took fermentation strategies from lagers and applied them to this ale. The old world brewing of this brew would typically result in a Kölsch, but because of our hopping techniques, the result is a session IPA. We hopped this beer by throwing in seven lbs of hops at the beginning of the boil. Right before the unfermented beer was sent into the heat exchanger, we added 100 more pounds of Cascade, Nugget, and Summit, about two pounds per barrel.

12 oz can with green dot on bottom, no discernible date

Pours a cloudy gold with a thin white head that lingers
Wow! Tropical nose, pineapple, mangoes, apricots, dank
A little let down in the taste, metallic, slightly tropical, thin
Thin mouthfeel in line with sessionable ales, better as it warms, fuller
A decent session IPA

This is my first beer from the rather new Fort Hill Brewery, a brand doing business out of 1776 Brewing Co. in Easthampton, MA. Gonna have to do some more research on what the relationship is between these two, but it looks like a Boston Beer Co./Sam Adams type deal going on here with one being the "brand" and one being the actual company name. Anyway, this one is an interesting take on an IPA. Clocking in at "pale ale" strength (5.5%), using pilsner, caramel and acidulated malt and featuring hops I would typically associate with "West Coast" IPAs means I have an expectation that this will be something like a hopped-up Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or something. Guess we'll see what it's really like once it's in my glass.

Pours a very nice light amber/orange color with a ton of free-floating hop resin once the whole of the can's contents is poured in. The head builds up to a nice ring of sticky eggshell-white foam that has nice legs and leaves a lot of pretty consistent lace as it sips. This is a very nice looking beer if you don't mind hop particulate without the appearance of intense haze. It's really only a translucent brew but the hops definitely muddy the body up a bit. Definitely not a "smoothie" type NE IPA.

The nose, however, gives off a surprisingly New England-style vibe. Weird for the Nugget/Summit/Cascade combination to give up these vibes, but I'm all for it to be honest. I pick up mango, orange and light grapefruit peel notes with some dank and piney/grassy appeal as well. Surprisingly juicy and wet... hm. Kind of seems weird to me that this comes off so bright, fruity and tropical with those hops but I'm definitely down. Excellent stuff here.

Flavor is pretty similar, with a lot of bursting notes of juicy orange, ripe mango, pineapple and pine resin. Sticky citrus peel and pith combined with fresh-squeezed tropical fruit really punches the palate here. This is very impressive. Slight aspirin-like bitterness in the back of the tongue, but honestly this has very few flaws in my opinion. I'm impressed this is 5.5%, because they packed a lot of flavor into this little guy. Good carbonation, resinous backend that finishes smooth and has a mouth-coating feel overall. I'll be back for more of these. Great stuff!

Pour is a semi hazy, bright orange hue. Big 2 finger width head with frothy bubbles. Nice lacing on the glass. Smell is plenty of wet pine, hints of lemon grass and orange peel. Taste is even more of a pine explosion, moderate tropical fruit going on like pinneapple and mango. Subtle malty backbone in the finish, mixed with more pine in the back end. Mouthfeel is moderately palate coating, with a fair amount of carbonation.

Got this as an extra in a trade, these NE hops never seem to disappoint me.

Great session IPA!

Poured into a 14 oz snifter on 5.2.2017 from a 12 oz can.

Look - has a darker orange look, almost like a burnt orange look to it with some hop resin. Nice look to it

Smell - not overly hoppy, i get some subtle hints of orange peel, grapefruit, and some tropical fruit hints, overall not overpowering.

Taste - The taste does not follow the nose, as this is bursting with a ton of juicy citrus flavor. I get a lot of orange, grapefruit, and lemon. Very juicy and hop forward, but finishes with a nice bitterness and really is a well balanced beer for being 5%

Feel - nice medium body and well balanced

Overall - I could totally crush a 6-pack of these. I like this so much that i would have it all year, not just the warmer months (I live in New England). I would definitely recommend having these multiple times on multiple occasions.

Picked-up a six-pack of cans at Kappy's in Norwell for about eight! dollars. My fourth brew from these guys. No canned-on date, but beer from these never sits long in my area. This was a disappointment, bland, nothing special, would not get again.

Cloudy, white to dirty gold color. Extensive lace from a modest head.

More malty to the nose than hoppy. In a word, balanced.

Contrary to the smell, the taste is far more hoppy. Good body with moderate carbonation. The swallow and aftertaste are similar to sucking on a hop pellet. I find the overall taste to be a bit "green".

Appearance: Pours rather hazy, the amber liquid capped by an inch of foam; a nice web of lacing forms

Smell: Pithy/grassy, with bready undertones

Taste: A bready base with just a touch of caramel underneath the pithy/grassy hop tones that build through the middle; fruity, with a crisp finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: A refreshing, session IPA but the hop profile could be more interesting

Thanks, Nichols33, for the opportunity

Decent session ipa, drinkable but a bit dry if you have more than a few. Wish it had more of the flavor profile of the fresh pick.

poured from a 12 oz. can hazy orange color quickly fading head to a light coating of lace very mild pine scent. light pine citrus taste smooth with a light body feel and slightly cloying taste. I would like to try again before I put it on my buy list.

Still not putting dates on your cans, Fort Hill?!?! C'mon, it's almost 2018! Regardless, this is another go-to 6-pack for hoppy goodness at a ridiculously low price. Cloudy and golden-yellow with a fluffy head, floral and piney nose, with a fruity taste and finish. What more could you want from a lighter IPA? For being a session, though, I detect an odd alcohol presence. Could be the overly dry, bitter, resinous finish but that isn't just hops. Hmmmm.....

Consumed 5/6/17

A: Medium-dark golden orange with some tangerine around the edges - hazy - pours with a medium sized white cap, fades to a nearly solid wispy cap, retains a medium collar and leaves some really nice streaks and spots of lacing

S: Bright and hoppy - tangerine, orange, and some grapefruit - floral citrus - some bright pine needles, hints of grass - some light tropical notes - pale malt base, very clean

T: Tangerine, orange, ruby red grapefruit, grapefruit - bright floral citrus, citrus zest - pine - leafy hops, some herbal notes - some peach and tropical notes, lightly fruity - lightly sweet, pale malts, some pils-like malts, light bread, crackers, clean finish

M: On the light side of medium, lightly oily but mostly clean and crisp

O: Yes, the farmer is fresh

Farmer's Fresh is the first beer I have had from Fort Hill, and... wow. This is a great IPA, "session" or not. It's light but immensely flavorful. What else could you want?

Sample pour. I forget if it was draft or bottle. Poured a hazy orange color. Piney and citrusy in the nose. Very standard scent. Light yeastiness in the nose as well. Flavor is ho-hum. Had it a million times before. Not necessarily bad, though. Citrus, grass, pine. Pale malt is fairly mellow. The body is pretty light. They're sorta going for the session IPA style. Decent bitterness. Its pretty innocuous.

Unknown vintage; drank 1/4/17 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE bright white head; strong, frothy lace.

Grapefruit, orange soda & caramel notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Grapefruit, caramel & orange citrus flavors up front; dry wheat & yeast notes on the finish.

A "fresh water" vibe pervades this & makes it refreshing; it's a bit dry & sweet for me, but overall enjoyable. I'd have another...
