12 oz. bottle

Pours dark maroon black with a creamy khaki colored foam head. Smells like big sweet buttery coconut, toffee, caramel, chocolate, rye spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes a bit acrid and almost artificial with buttery coconut, toffee, caramel, dark bitter chocolate, roasted rye spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels light bodied, creamy with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a nice coconut rye stout.

Well hot damn. Color me stupid. This son of a gun is rocking and rolling like a Lennon/Mcartney circle jerk. I mean, this thing is devine! Think of the most exquisite coconut you have ever seen, like, Kate Uptons’s coconuts, ya know? And imagine that gorgeous essensese squeezed into a Rye stout.

Yeah buddy!

big thanks to 2beerdogs for this excellent coconut stout!

Ooooohhhh it pours a thicker than expected black with half finger of finely beaded tan foam. Beautiful look. A swirl leaves oily bubbles of lace.

Wow some really delicious flavors in the aroma, almost like mounds bar meets light roast coffee. Very delicate herbal notes assemble in the backdrop.

Isn't it great when a plan comes together? Full flavored and all that the aroma promised the taste now delivers in spades. At the beginning of the sip you can taste the spicy grain rye with malt grainy sweet but it is quickly joined and overtaken by a wave of dark chocolate and coconut and with a surprise kick of hoppy bitter. Coffee is less a part of the taste than of the aroma, but still a nice flavor to accompany the chocolate goodness . Really dynamic flavor presentation here that is very delicious.

At the upper end of body and lower end of carb. for style and it works very very well. Finish is dynamite, a blast of clean bitter linger that keeps the interest going for next sip.

Great coconut in this really digging it, suits the deeper notes so well and brings out the chocolate notes in a fantastic way. Highly Recommended.

Amazing toasted coconut and rye aroma! Coconut is not too overpowering, just right. Love this beer!

$ 6.27 (Including $ 3.78 shipping)/12 oz bottle ($ 0.522/oz) from CraftShack, San Diego, CA
Bottle dated 16-09-15 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – roasted coconut
Head small (Maximum two cm, aggressive pour), light brown, creamy with rocks, diminishing to an irregular two to six mm ring and thin layer
Lacing good – partial rings of tiny bubbles
Body – dark brown, opaque
Flavor mostly coconut with some malt overtones. The rye is not evident. No hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate medium, creamy, lively carbonation.

If this were locally available, I’d pick up a case or two. However, since the shipping more than doubles the price, this is a case of one and done.

Really great under the radar beer. Tons and tons of coconut and one of the creamiest mouthfeels I have ever had. It pours with a huge whiskpy head that barely dissipates. It isn't a carbonated head like many other beers, but rather a thick almost espresso like head. Delicious.

A: Moderate roasted malts, quite chocolate-like, followed by ample toasted coconut,

A: Jet black with a moderate tan head that has solid retention.

T: Lots of roasted malts upfront, rich chocolate like taste, coupled with toasted coconut. The malt gives the beer a slightly sweet taste and there is a very light bitterness and semi-dry finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Tasty; the beer has a great chocolate, rich chocolate malt aroma and flavor that is well complemented by the toasted coconut. The beer is quite sessionable and very easy to drink.

Man, oh man is this a good beer. Pours pitch black. The aroma is AMAZING. Like being punched in the nose with coconut. Definitely get some chocolate in there too. The taste is just as amazing as the smell. So much coconut...wish I was drinking this bad boy on the beach. Also get chocolate, vanilla, and some spiciness from the rye....and these flavors blend phenomenally. The feel is a bit thin, but this isn't an imperial stout. Overall I love this beer. Excellent work, Barley Forge!

coconut!!! Pours dark with a thick one inch head. Chocolate and coconut on the nose. Wanted to smell it more and more as it was smelling so good. Tasted coconut right away and the chocolate with plenty of rye. A bit thin, with a velvet finish. Overall a wonderful and very affordable tasting stout.

Strong notes of chocolate and coconut in this beer. I also tasted a hint of toasted marshmallow as well. The aroma was quite similar. This beer was very drinkable, and I'd definitely go out of my way to have this again!

So far my favorite offering from Barley Forge! Smells like toasted coconut chips with not much roast or rye spice coming through. When tasting, the roast, rye spice and a little cocoa bitterness are all present, along with that toasted coconut flavor that dominated the nose. Luckily, the flavor of the coconut does not dominate, blending well with the other flavors. On the thin side but I usually prefer my stouts to be of the russian imperial variety and I'm probably unfairly judging this beer's mouthfeel out of it's class. Unfortunately, I'm over-bothered by thinness in stouts.

Rumor has it that there are Pappy BA and Rum BA versions in the works and I'd be very very interested in trying beer from either barrel!

Deep brown and pours with less than half a finger of head. Roasty, nutty smell that makes me think of buttered popcorn. Coconut tastes comes through but is competing with chocolate and vanilla flavors. Mouthfeel is slightly thin, but probably average for this kind of beer. Overall, a solid coconut rye. Would love to try a barrel-aged version!

The Patsy pours a thick coffee black with a deep tan, half finger head that dissipates leaving a slight film on the glass. The smell is big on toasted coconut and hazelnut with cacao notes and mild vanilla sweetness. The taste is smooth and creamy on the palette with a dark, bitter chocolate up front, which gives way to the toasted coconut and just a hint of vanilla, finishing with a bitter, burnt coffee.

Pours black with light khaki head. Smells of tons of coconut. The taste is amazing. The coconut and Rye work really well together. It is like a Oskar Blue Death by Coconut but with a little more going on.
