Dark brown/coppery hue with clarity under fizzy light tan head that disappeared quickly leaving a thin, incomplete ring; no cap retention, no lace. Sweet caramel malt nose. Roasty bitter almost burnt malt entry, followed by sweet caramel and toffee flavors; dry finish. Medium body, light carbonation; no warmth from 9.2% abv. Overall, drinks light for abv; long bitter roast lasts Niger; not as complex/layered as other Baltic Porters I’ve had, still enjoyable nonetheless.

12oz can from Tavour. Dark, dark brown pour, filmy beige head, ring. Aroma is roasty malts, light sweetness, wood and smoke. Taste gets very smoky, sweetness too, molasses. A light tingly bitterness remains on the palate.

Canned (I think) 1/10/23
My can says 9.2% ABV
One solid finger's worth of toasted marshmallow head takes shape over a deep doo doo butter brown body. Head quickly recedes to a clingy, eclipse-style ring. It looks the part. Smells like a big, smoky porter and I approve big time. The smoke in this resembles a peaty, Islay scotch nose. It's similar to Ardbeg, in particular. Smoked meat. Also smells of bourbon barrel-aged coffee beans and super dark, bitter chocolate. Damn. That is one fine ass nose. Doesn't taste as good, unfortunately. I do get some vanilla and marshmallow up front but it's pretty washed out. Some watery donut shop coffee in the mid-palette. Finishes dry and smoky with a bit of the metallic, tongue-to-a-nine-volt-battery shock that I often get from porters. Drinks way thinner than I'd guess for something of this octane. Fuck. This smells so good that it ends up being a big 'ol bummer when you taste it.

Can from the brewery in Brooklyn. Pours black with a finger of rocky dark tan head that sticks around, boozy lacing, smell is bourbon, vanilla, boozy toffee cake, hot fudge, brownie batter, hints of maple syrup, taste is bourbon and vanilla soaked sponge cake, hints of burnt sugar, custard, and chocolate, feel is liggt to thin, minimal carbonation. Bourbon and vanilla forward with a great nose. Crime brûlée vibes.

Pours dark black with flavors of ice cream, biscotti, and good sweetness. This is a very drinkable beer despite the 9.44% ABV. A super solid offering from 3s.

Ebony tap pour with 1/2 cm of foam. Aroma is toasted malt and pecan. Flavors are deeply roasted chocolate malt, espresso beans and a bit of anise and tobacco. The mouthfeel is okay, a bit thin and watery. The rich flavor wins here.
