The clear light amber colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1" ivory head that leaves a good bit of lacing on the sides as it recedes slowly but visibly to evenutally leave behind an irregular thin island of foam and a bit of a ring around the glass. Sipping creates lots of small patches and legs of lacing.

The aromas include citrus and pine resin with some tropical fruit notes and a bit of malt in the background.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose with the citrus and pine resin up front. The tropical fruits and malt backbone noticeable but serves complement the citrus and resin. The malt backbone is enough to soften the bitterness of the hops but not to conceal them in any way.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly prickly and crisp from the moderate carbonation. The finish begins as the various hop flavors begin to fade away, leaving behind a nice dry slight bitterness to close the show.

This is definitely well made, hop centric IPA that I'd be happy to have again. It is a nice example of the West Coast version of an IPA once combination of flavors and aromas are mostly about the hops and their enjoyable flavor profile. The only thing I’d change about the beer is to have the malt just a bit more noticeable in the long ending in the back of the palate.

 

Pours a semi clear amber with fine, soapy head.

Smell is fruity and piney with notes of grapefruit, tangerine, caramel and peach.

Taste is fruity and piney, with notes of grapefruit, peach, resin, black tea and a solid bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium, sticky and well carbonated.

Overall, a very nice, old school west coast IPA.

Solid IPA...Cannot go wrong with Citra hops IMHO!

 

 

 

Poured from a pull off top can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a very lightly hazed orange amber color with a one finger head of just off-white foam. The head has a great level of retention slowly fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is massive in intensity with tons of tropical fruits of tangerine and papaya along with big hop aromas of a herbal and earthy nature. Along with these smells comes some rather strong vegetal smells as well as a bit of a harvest fruit smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a very doughy and bready flavor that has a great level of sweetness due to some tropical fruits of tangerine mixed with some caramel flavors. There is a herbal and vegetal hop flavor right from the start that grow stronger as the taste moves forward. Along with these hops comes some flavors of an earthy hop and a bit of hay. The vegetal flavors really amp up at the end, and with a touch of harvest fruit sweetness of pear, one is left with an oddly pleasant vegetal/herbal hopped, sweeter, and thicker malt taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the thicker and chewier side with a lower carbonation level. The feel really fits the thicker malt flavors and the odd hop and sweet tastes rather well, and actually seems to accentuate them and make them more approachable and enjoyable.
Overall – Now I may be an oddity, but I always sorta like a little bit of herb, earth, pine, and/or vegetable flavor in my IPA. It creates a more dank and interesting flavor profile for the brew (I am sorta tired of fruity and citrusy IPAs…). This is an interesting one that delivers many of the aforementioned qualities. I like it, but feel it will likely be a polarizing brew. Try it if you have the chance. You may like it, or you may not, but it is interesting any which way.

June 2019....bright and mostly clear copper with a high white foam if you let it sit. Faint floral nose. Pine too. Resin filled open and a sharp pine bitter. Smacks the palate. Like tree sap and bark together. Nice.

 

 

 

Poured from a can into a tulip.

Pours medium-amber and clear with a moderate head and lacing.

Citrus and resin aromas dominate the nose, with hints of caramel malt in the background.

The flavor follows the nose. Strong grapefruit and general citrus flavors forward on the tip of the tongue. Earthy and piney hops in midstream. Pale malts provide balance. A nice spicy finish with a hint of booze.

Medium-bodied and smooth, with a bit of dryness at the finish and plenty of carbonation.

Overall, a nice west-coast evocative offering.

 

Bright gold and crystal clear body; gently rising carbonation; very thick and creamy white head. Fantastic pine and floral hop aroma. Berry taste with some herbal spiciness; light malt grain flavor; bread crust; well-balanced hop bitterness. Medium body; softly tickles the palate; primarily dry mouthfeel throughout.

My can was packaged on 03/15/19, yet despite its age, comes across in a very pleasant manner. Sure, the taste is mildly muted yet still has a lot of character and variety. Well-balanced and flavorful.

Pours a soapy yellow and amber color, 1/3" white head. Aroma seemed to be mostly/entirely bittering hops and crystal malt.

Taste, yeah, the commercial tug job ain't lying, they go for ibu bitterness more than flavor on this ipa. Chinook and Centennial seems to be utilized extensively, giving a solid floral grapefruit, tree and aspirin like bitterness with a heftier malt presence. The claim of Citra hops seems to be one of those "we used regular hops for 98% of the beer, but check it out, we dropped all of 2! hop cones of Citra in here you can't taste or smell!". Nothing citra wise seeming to be going on. Looks like Warrior hops also amp up the bitterness here.

Mouth feel just continues to beat a dead horse with its bitterness first, middle and always approach. Alcohol is slightly perceptible. I dunno, this was relatively average all around for me for the most part.

 

 

 

12oz can produced 7/17/18. Amber color with a half finger of white head. Smells of malt and floral/pine hops. Light, well carbonated feel. Taste has a malt base with big piney hop flavors and a dry/earthy finish. Great beer that nails the West Coast style.

 

 

Pours nice with a big head. Good carbonation. Slightly hazy and a fair aroma with the hops. The taste is decent with the citra hops. Not powerful at all, nor bitter. It has a good mouthfeel with the carbonation. Easy to drink. Fortunately I got a six pack here in beautiful downtown Valentine, NE and I’ll be having another. The can’s cap removes completely and makes somewhat of a “glass” on its own. Kind of cool. Canned on 06/21/2018 “cansinthewild”

 

 

 

Poured from a can dated 3/15/18.

Pours a clear straw color with a thick, one finger, white head and soapy lacing.

The smell is slightly floral and piney with a malt background. There's also a little breadiness in there reminiscent of a pilsner.

The taste is very malty sweet with a little pine and a lingering bitterness. The malt overtakes the other flavors with pine resin a close second.

The mouthfeel is medium carbonation, slight thick and oily.

Overall this is too sweet for me. I'm not a fan of the lingering pine bitterness either. But fans of west coast malty IPAs will probably really enjoy it.

 

 

I can honestly say this is the first beer I've ever had from Nebraska. You just don't see many Nebraska beers out there. But I love the wide mouth can. Still not sure why more breweries aren't doing this.

Pours a cloudy apricot color with a nice one-finger head. Decent enough lace as the beer recedes. Lots of fruit in the nose (citrus, mango, pear) with a strong fruitcake scent and some pine. The taste is nice as well, with a strong emphasis on the fruit, with a very malty (almost syrupy) sweetness. Hoppy bitterness on the back end with mildly funky aftertaste. Moutfeel is a bit sharp and metallic, but mellows out some as the beer warms to room temp.

Overall this is a solid IPA. I am not sure what I was expecting, but this exceeded my expectations. I hope to find more Nebraska B.C. beers to try. Cheers.

 

Big pop top can that turns the can into more of a glass. Poured over to a pint glass nicely. They lose points on an indecipherable date code (they don't want you to know) but gain some back on a recommended serving temp (42 F).

Appearance: Frothy rocky head that holds a full finger and coats the side of the glass with lace. Glass is hazy gold with a little amber.

Aroma: Big hop presence, smells like a C hop, really like hop pellets, very potent.

Taste: Big hop flavor without a lot of bitter after bite. Pine, citric, earthy mix of alpha acid is backed by a pretty clean crystal malt base that gives a sugary coat to the hop assault. Orange peel finish is candied and lasting.

Mouthfeel: Heavy body triggers a chew, finishes fairly clean with a little oily residue.

Overall: Impressive. Old school IPA, west coast, taste fresh. You should like hops getting an IPA and this delivers. I'll look out for more.

 

 

This a very good traditional west coast IPA. Appearance is beautiful- it pours a clear copper, deep golden with finger width head and strong lacing throughout the pint. Aroma of bread, citrus and slight pine. Taste is instantly well balanced leaning towards the bitter side: malt is definitely present with slight bready and caramel character that supports the hop flavor and bitterness well. Hops flavors are a range of citrus and pine. Bitterness is moderate to high, but perfect in a west coast way for the malt presence. Could use more hop flavor. This beer achieves what it seems intent on doing- being a good “drinking” American IPA. It is not quite world class, but definitely worthy of adding to your IPA rotation.
