Treated at the brewery in a point glass. Exceptionally smooth with coffee and chocolate milk on the flavor profile. Robust porter this one. Bring on the stouts CBC!

Another brewery is open in Fort Worth. Never thought I would see the day when we would have multiple breweries in this town. The Collective Brewing Project is a welcome addition. Starting off with their porter, Mustache Rye'd. The beer pours a deep dark, not quite black, brown. Things are topped off by two fingers of light khaki head. Head falls to a ring, leaving some lace in its wake.

Plenty of dark malt in the nose. Coffee notes hit first. Some sweet chocolate notes hit next. Light, vaguely earthy , hop notes present beneath the malt. A well rounded porter nose.

Mustache Rye'd is light on the palate. In this case it's a good thing. Dark roasty malts hit first. Strong coffee notes stand out first. Some light chocolate notes present as well. Drying, lighly spicy, rye notes flow throughout. Light, earthy hops, balance things out. The finish is roasty with a drying rye quality. The dryness urges one to take another sip.

Mustache Rye'd is a light bodied porter. The carbonation is adequate.

The folks at Collective were going for a lighter porter that could be drank during the summer months. This is Texas, folks. No porter is gonna quite hit the spot during those brutal months. Mustache Rye'd probably comes as close as any porter to being quaffable when mother nature turns the thermostat up to hell. As is, this a rock solid porter. Really hits the spot on a cool spring evening. With quality beer like this, I hope The Collective Brewing Project sticks around awhile.
