355ml can, sold in 4-packs as of late in Alberta - nice to see a new Saskabush brewery's wares show up around here.

This beer pours a solid, light-destroying black abyss, with the barest of bare basal cola edges, and two fingers of mildly foamy, and mostly bubbly tan head, which leaves some decent dripping paint stroke lace around the glass as it duly subsides.

It smells of roasted caramel malt, wet brown bread, anise liqueur, oily bar-top nuts (the kind found in bowls, thankyouverymuch), cream-laced black coffee, and earthy, leafy hops. The taste is medium-sweet bakers' chocolate, bready caramel/toffee malt, black licorice strands, a pithy nuttiness, somewhat sour milk, over-sugared coffee, and weedy, leafy, and slightly perfumed hops.

The bubbles are fairly restrained in their basic frothiness, the body a splendid middleweight, due in no small part to its unassailed smoothness, and rather genial creaminess. It finishes off-dry, the chocolate, lactic, and earthy sweetness all mixing and matching with great aplomb.

It's always a heart-warmer when one's first contact with a new brewery is so good - this is a pleasant as a peach milk stout - big flavour all around, without going over the top or around the bend (this is from Saskatchewan, after all!). Regional groaner jokes aside, I'm quite looking forward to what comes next from a place that I only previously associated with childhood teammates going off to ply their trade for the Broncos.

A- Pours an inky black/dark brown color and is very opaque to look at....hard to see what the carbonation is looking like. The head is pretty much non existent and there are just a few very fine bubbles around the edge of the glass. There is no lacing what so ever as well but there is an oily film that clings to the side of the glass. Not exactly a great start!

S- The aromas are actually quite good, with smells of coffee, sweet creamy chocolate, hints of licorice, brown sugar, toffee/molasses and earthy....the finish smells somewhat dry yet sugary....if it's close in taste I'm in!

T- Flavors follow the aromas quite well, with a nice balance between sweet caramel/cola flavors and somewhat bittering burnt barley malt. Hints of coffee and dark chocolate are in the background as well as mild licorice and Earthy notes. The finish is a combination of bitter hops and astringent burnt malts....actually quite nice and balancing!

M/O- This is reasonably light bodied and the carbonation is heavier than I would have expected but I don't mind this at all! It is nicely balanced between sweet and Earthy character and I think this is quite drinkable and would have no issues enjoying over the course of the evening. I recommend this one!

Can: Poured a clear black color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of coffee notes with some dry roasted malt notes is pretty pleasant. Taste is a good mix between some dry roasted malt with some coffee notes and lightly sweet notes are also noticeable. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable example of the style.

355 ml can (as pictured).
Poured a dark black, with a large off-white and foamy head. Good retention and lacing lines.
Aroma of roasted malt and some coffee, nice smelling beer.
Taste is a good blend of the roasted, even a bit of charred malt, coffee, sweetness and some bitterness at the end to balance.
Average level of carbonation, medium body, smooth.
Smooth, easy to drink, enjoyable.
Everything I have tried from Black Bridge has been good so far.

Great colour and flavour, a drinkable and well put together stout. Took a growler home, the only deficit it has is in the sweetness and mouthfeel. I haven't had many milk stouts, but if it wasn't on the label I wouldn't have called it that. All in all a decent beer.
