Barrel-Aged Barley WineBarrel-Aged Barley Wine
Notes: Barrel-aged for 10 months in recently emptied red wine barrels. Our barleywine begins with a beautiful port and wet oak aroma, which translates into a luscious, warming mouthfeel. Lightly carbonated with a strong amount of bitterness to balance out the bold dark cherry, red wine, and brandy flavours.

Recommended serving temperature: 45°F/ 7°C.

Poured dark dark dark, with a small head. Lots of barleywine flavours dominating this beer giving it a big profile. The first taste really reminds me Thomas Hardy Ale, which is a great thing. I really enjoy the strong flavours but the overall taste profile is not as full and complex as the standard-bearers in the class. The alcohol content is quite noticable in the first few samplings, but integrates better as the palate adjusts. Drinks very nicely and is a good example of a barleywine.

EDIT: I've now had this offering multiple times and can provide some more fulsome feedback. While there is some variability overall I've experienced a good amount of habitual impressiveness. First pouring and sips are harsh on the palate but I've found this barley wine settles down into a great overall taste profile, especially when I'm in the mood. Big flavours and impressive depth, a notable ester component and settling into a nice smooth overall profile. Especially when sampled slowly. Definitely a recommended 4+ rated barleywine.

Cheers
