Paired with goat cheese. Dark pour into a Gingerbread stout snifter. Not much of a head and the nose is light. Flavor is a mild blend of coffee, coconut, and chocolate. Not much roasted flavor. Has an island feel to it. Really good with a cheese plate (versus drinking it solo). Medium-light bodied.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.
Minimal head creation, actually kind of flat with a faint tan color, and barely stretching over a thick pencil height. Settles to a simple bowled collar sitting on top of a dark walnut brown body. Looks a little bit still and lifeless.
Aroma.. Coconut yes. Beer or porter? Not exactly. This smells like a straight up pina colada. I swear there's even a sense of pineapple like syrup dangling from this. Virtually no sense of roast or porter character, maybe a small touch of chocolate. It's not horribly sweet though as I kind of maybe anticipated at first, but boy this aroma is odd an just doesn't fit right in some way.
The palate is actually quite lousy. Not the worst ever, but that aroma is unfortunately making it's way too much in the flavor. Weakened pineapple and coconut, it comes off like an actually cheap 80 proof bottle mixer. Exceptionally weak mouthfeel, far too wet for even for a basic porter. Where is the roast and char on this thing? Surprisingly the main flavor on the palate consists of hardly any coconut at all.
Just a poorly and cheap like tasting brew.

Bought this at the brewery, where 4 packs of 16 oz cans cost 15 bucks. I'd say that was unacceptable, but I was dumb enough to pay it, so whatever.
Pours kind of limp. Dark red with mild fizz and no head. The body looks awfully thin for the style.
Smells of mild, chocolatey barley and some sweet coconut. A little one dimensional but nice enough, avoids the cloying sweetness found in some other beers.
Tastes okay. More intense and sweet than it smells, but still not so sweet that it gets too intense. Starts out with mild porter barley, chocolate in the middle, and the sweet coconut on the finish. Again, not especially complex but nothing is off.
So it's fine. Body's a little thin, but that's my only real complaint. It just absolutely does not justify its price tag.

22 oz. bottle poured into a nonic style pint glass.
Almost two fingers of tan, rocky, root beer like foam sits over a dark brown body. the head lessens to just a ring and leaves some slick spotty lacing on the glass.
The nose is subdued with sweet cola, caramel and slight roasted malt aromas as well as a hint of vanilla. The taste mostly mimics the nose. It is sweet but not cloying as the mild roasty bitterness adds some balance. It finishes with a cola like sweetness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, it drinks fairly smooth but has a bit of a chalky feel to it.
This isn't bad but I find it to be very mundane. I don't sense any coconut in the nose or taste. I think some perceivable coconut would help.

2.54/5: Too sweet with minimal coconut flavor, yet insipid and chemical in nature; tastes like the brewery didn't want to offend palates

My favorite beer out of 8 sampled. Not too sweet or cloying with a really nice coconut flavor. I would definitely drink this again if I come back again.
