Clear amber with little head. Sweet corn & malt nose. Sweet bready malt taste, medium-light body. Some crispness on finish. Needs body, not for me.

Pours a clear, light copper body with about half of a finger of fine-bubbled head. On the nose, slightly caramelized, biscuity malts are accented by sharp grassy and faintly spicy notes. On the palate, the beer feels very full, with roasted malts contributing a certain toastiness and zest from the hops helping to spread a nice kick of bitterness. Easy-going carbonation with a long finish. Really nice oktoberfest.

I love Mill Street products. But this one is likely one of my least favorites. Not that there is a specific factor, just than Mill Street has much better beers. But this one is seasonal, so its not like its available year round to criticize.

355 ml bottle served cold into a shaker pint. Cost about $2.30 CDN. Part of the Mill Street seasonal pack. 2015 edition advertised as 5.6% ABV.

Appearance - mostly clear rich coppery color with just enough haze to make this not see through. Decent finger and change of off- white head, recedes to a small white cap on top.

Smell - predominately grains, some corn, just a hint of harvest vegetables, some crackery goodness and a touch of brown sugar too top it off. Very enticing Oktoberfest beer.

Taste - grains, bitterness up front. Some rich graininess follows it up. Flavours of fresh corn. Nice caramel malt backbone. Earthy richness throughout, tastes like autumn in a glass.

Mouthfeel - smooth, rich, good carbonation and good feel.

Overall - awesome representation of the style, embodies what an Oktoberfest beer is all about. Just delicious and given that the pumpkin ale was also quite nice, I can see myself picking up a couple more of these mill street seasonals in the next month or so.

Appearance: Poured with a half finger of head that barely lace and did not stick around. The body is a slightly cloudy orange with very low carbonation.

Smell: In a word, absent. The barest hints of malt is all that is present, even after warming up. Nothing bad, but didn't show up.

Taste: Very plain, as caramel malt mixed with milder bread taste turns to a hint of stone fruit fruitiness and ending with a dusting of slightly earthy hops that seem out of place.

Mouthfeel: Points get deducted for the lacklustre head and poor carbonation. The caramel and light peach and plum aftertaste save it from catastrophe though.

Drinkability: Well I drank it fairly quick, which I guess says something. Refreshing, although the hops just seem out of place if you were planning to go to town on it. Settled down well enough I suppose and light bodied, so yeah...it has some merit.

Final Thoughts: A rare disappointment from Mill St. but I think perhaps I'm being a bit too harsh. This beer is a party beer, that you grab and start putting back and it's superior to generic lager in that there is flavour that is there that doesn't overstay it's welcome, which I suppose is really the intent behind Oktoberfest. It just strikes me as odd since so many other Marzen's I have just come out far better then this one.
