Style: Irish Dry Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
We produce a traditional styled Irish Stout that is served using beer gas to produce that familiar creamy pore. This is the same system that draft Guinness uses. Our black stout has a roasted malt flavour and a hint of toasted walnuts and chocolate in the finish. Select imported hops are used to dry out the finish of this ale.

Like most here, I bought this in a can. Rich, profoundly deep brown capped by a generous, handsome caramel colored cream. The contrast reminds me of a dark roast espresso. Scent gives off a hint and mix of molasses, malt, caramel, chocolate and nuts. The taste is not overly complex. It's very low in bitterness (if any) with 4.2% alcohol by volume so it's not going to pack a punch. Overall, balanced and very smooth.

Toronto produced, traditionally style Stout. Smokelly. Notes of ground coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Label says Smooth and and it is! Nitrogenated, same device as Guiness.

From a can the pour is highly foamy that slowly constructs into a 3 finger khaki head, that last more than 20 minutes, has a very fine definition, and making creamy lacing. Extremely thick and creamy, almost looks like marble stone! (no joke) The beer is dark brown, almost black, opaque with no visual activity. Dominant malty sugars, with soft leafy spices. Flavors of wood, oysters, roasted dark malts, faint coffee and chocolate, soft molasses and caramel, and some herbal spices. Oily medium body with soft carbonation. Medium strength finish, a little spicy and peppery, lingering smoked malts with a light earthy feel of walnuts. A little watery and flat, lacks body, carbonation, and intensity. Doesn't feel very fresh like a bad English porter. The flavors are okay, but nothing special. Overall mediocre quality craft.

Pours a deep, dark body with a very creamy head. The scent hits you with coffee, chocolate, smokiness, and vanilla sweetness, a really nice deeply malted beast. The taste is creamy, bitter, smoky, and coffee-like, but in a non-artificial way that really covers the whole palate. The feel is velvety soft, and works very well considering it is such a light stout. Overall another great show from Mill Street!

440 ml nitro can purchased and consumed in Nova Scotia.
Pours essentially black with a very durable tan head.
Smooth light body with ample but soft carbonation.
Aroma: dark roasted grains with char and a hint of dark fruits.
Flavor: dark roasted grains with light hops and hints of smoke, char, and coffee.

Overall: lots of dark roast flavor in a low ABV stout.

A very solid and enjoyable "easy" drinking stout. It reminds me of Guinness but with more flavour and slightly more complexity. I was t expecting too much but I was pleasantly surprised. I'll buy it again!
