Mill Street E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)Mill Street E.S.B. (Extra Special Bitter)

Brewed by:
Mill Street Brew Pub
Ontario, Canada

Style: Extra Special / Strong Bitter (ESB)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bitters have been the common drink in English pubs for decades. Mill St ESB uses only traditional ingredients, Marris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England. With light malt and hops in the nose, this copper coloured ale gives rise to a malty body with hints of chocolate and black currants. The hoppiness is always present but never out of balance in this style.

On tap @ the Mill St., Toronto Pearson airport.

Clear copper with great head retention

The smell is faint - but there's biscuity malt and some earthy, mild English hops

Taste is classic ESB: mild earthy hops and a slightly nut-bread malt profile

Finishes dry, slow to aftertaste

Really nice, great companion on a layover to Vancouver

Poured a 355-ml bottle into a pub ale glass.

Appearance: Amber-copper colour with a creamy-beige head that sticks around for a bit then thins to a layer of surface foam.

Smell: Woody roasted malt aromas.

Taste: A tasty and refreshing malt flavour that gives way to more intense hop flavours at the end. The aftertaste is moderately heavy and sweet.

Mouthfeel: A bit of a ride with a softer start and then more action as the hops come forward.

Overall: Not a bad beer by any means, I could definitely put a few of these away.
