This is one insane place. Crazy selection like I've never seen anywhere in the area. Crazy Belgian selection and also a ton of offerings from not-so-easy-to-find beer from Germany and the UK.

Cool shop with a pretty huge selection, as well as a generally great/diverse taplist. They have some good events and get some good stuff in, including some decent rarities. The tags are a killer though, with some of the highest prices in the entire area, Philly included. Employees are usually always around to help if you have any questions. I saw the owner (I think) arguing with a distributor once, and he seems a little sketchy overall, or just aggressive in getting his shop the allotment he wants, I guess, so take that as you will. Doesn't seem like good business to do that right out amidst your customers, but what do I know.

This place is always worth checking out if in the area, but I can get a lot of the stuff they sell at many other places at better prices, so I don't go in often.

I just found this place last week. It is overwhelming, so plan on spending some time. They have a huge selection categorized by region/coast. The employees are really nice and helpful. They have a few dozen taps in the back of the store, they encouraged me to get a beer WHILE I shopped, WOW! (plus they have flights and growler fills). I came out with some hard to find beers. The store is neat, clean and inviting.
Now all we have to do is get Pennsylvania to chance their bassackwards alcohol laws...

The beer mecca of the Greater Philadelphia area, or so I’ve been told. Neat and clean all around, it looks new. Nice employee greeted me with a welcome and a smile. Right away, a shelf with Lost Abbey and Cascade, and then a Shelton Bros shelf with Mikkeller and more.

They sell six-packs, and they have one from pretty much every brewery in the US (I’m only slightly exaggerating). Compared to Philly, really not bad prices. Although Old Stock Barrel Aged ’13 $34.99 is silly ($29.99 or less in Philly).

Lots of quality imports, just check out all the different Samichlaus and drool. The “draftroom”-bar is cool too, although the ambience is not conducive to hanging out too long. Beers are rather pricey by the glass.

Definitely worth a visit, but perhaps not a dedicated drive from afar. State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD, is a better choice if you're in the PA-DE-MD area.

This place is absolutely incredible. It is wall to wall beer! I visited when I was in Malvern on business and I just happened to stumble upon the place. I walked in and it took my breath away. The selection and variety is incredible. They have every beer I have ever heard of (and I love beer) and a million beers I had never heard of. There is also a tasting bar with 30 beers on tap. I tried my first sour beer there and I am in love. The staff is incredible and extremely knowledgeable. One of the staff even home brews! I visited two of the nights (out of 4) that I was in town and I stayed until closing both nights. The owner is also there most nights and he is awesome! If I am ever within 100 miles of this place again, I will definitely be making the trip.

Stopped here with my brother-in-law. 24 taps of craft beers, as well as hundreds of bottles for sale. They are very generous with tastings, and also have a great selection of beers on tap. These selections rotate often. Knowledgeable and attentive staff. Huge selection of singles and sixes for sale. The only drawback is that the prices are a bit high, but that is due to the archaic PA beer laws.

I've been to this establishment several times so far, and I'm surprised at some of the negative comments surrounding this place. Quite frankly, the gripes regarding price points, while valid, are simply unwarranted. If you don't like the prices they have on items but you like the competition, simply go to the competition.
As for me, I don't mind paying a slight upcharge for quality products. Every beer I've had on tap has been in excellent shape. Each beer line has their own dedicated gas regulator, which is a must when serving this many beers with such a spectrum of style selection. Sure, there are places that have the same items cheaper but I've gotten things here that I've had trouble tracking down elsewhere, and don't mind paying a few extra bucks...plus, I grew up in the area, and I know that the rent over this way is not cheap, so you are going to pay an extra few bucks here and there. It's really not uncommon to have a disparagy in pricing between businesses too. It is a free market, afterall, and you're free to shop around. I remember getting into the hobby in the late 90s, and often driving to the ONLY place in the Philly metro area that had a great selection of beer, which was The Foodery on 10th & Pine. Guess what? The prices were over the top but I still went b/c I could find what I was looking for.

The island granite bar they have is beautiful, and the bar stools are cozy to relax in.
The employees are friendly, knowledgable, and helpful on the items.
The selection is top notch. Like I said, I've tracked down items that have been on my radar with no luck in some of the well known stores both inside, and outside PA, and they've come through for me.

Finally, I'm not one for listening to complaints. If you don't like the way a place runs their business, kindly offer them a suggestion on how they might do something better, and most of the time, they'll listen. If not, patrons will not return. Bashing them online just doesn't seem like the right answer to me.

Stopped here this past weekend and I thought the store was well organized. The variety was amongst the best overall I have found in the area. Service was personable and friendly. I found the drafts to be priced reasonably. That said prices on non-draft beer was a couple more dollars expensive than typical in the area. I would visit here again for the variety and service, just realizing that I am going to pay a bit more for the convenience of one-stop shopping.

First visit here, and it was great. Grabbed a pint of fresh Nugget Nectar for $5 (not bad) and browsed for an hour. I didn't feel the pricing was off. Grabbed less than month old Lagunitas Sucks for $9, Cascade Figaro and Elderberry for $38 and $33, which were $5 more each in Philly. I did see some old IPA's on the shelf (Green Flash, best by 7-14, it is now 1-15), but honestly, I see that everywhere. The bartender/stocker dude was friendly and welcoming, and gave me a verbal layout of the store. And Darren was friendly and cool as well. I don't live in the area, but I will visit again when in the area. I plunked down $140 today, and if the selection and prices stay impressive, I'd do it again.

great selection both bottles/cans and from the 30 taps. The draft beer seems to be cheaper than most local beer bars along the mainline and the turnover is quick so there is always something good on tap. Have been for one of their release events, while it was a bit chaotic, in the end i think everyone got what they wanted and if you didn't win a raffle for what you wanted, there was a good chance someone else wanted what you won and was willing to swap. very friendly and knowledgeable staff, Starting to get more eating selections but they don't mind if you bring in your own food. Love this place.

Bait and switch operation. When it opened they were giving stuff away, pouring cheap growlers, etc... then suddenly everything turns, employees coming up to customers to point out that their boss is a cheapskate who won't even allow them to buy any beer they they sell, raffles for overpriced rare bottles of beer, old IPAs on shelf (we're talking 1+ year old in the case of some special releases). Not worth the trouble. Bad, bad place in fact. Avoid.

Nice looking place. It's overpriced, and they lure customers in the store.

For KBS, you had to buy a growler and enter a lottery to even have the chance to then buy the KBS bottle.

They pretend they're a good spot, but not really. Brag about limited release stuff, but never actually available - or they make you buy shelf turds for the right to buy other stuff. Dont even get me started on the price gouging too...I really would not go here if i were you

Started off great but as with all good things they go up in price, and these guys wasted no time. Their sister store has the same reputation of over charging for "special" beers. If you must have a certain beer they may be the place to go, but in the first month they charged $9.99 for a four pack of a great local beer, yesterday they charged $3.99 a can, that's $15.96 a four pack. They also charged $5.99 for a 12oz bottle of Grapefruit Sculpin, this beer was $50 a case around here not $36 a six pack! Now they are requiring you to buy a growler fill of Rubaus if you want to get a draft pour of KBS($9.99 for the draft pour)

I was very excited to see this place open and I knew they would be more expensive then other shops but IMO they have gotten out of hand way to fast. I also don't like the practice of a shop making you buy this in order to buy the beer you really want.

Take my review as you wish, it is worth stopping in for a great selection but not going to become my go to beer store.

Clean, well lit, aisles are a bit narrow but that's what you have to do to fit all of this beer in one space. Decent tap selection, prices can be high at times but they had some stuff i'll never see in Central PA so what the hell.

Edit: 2nd visit - Owner had a expletive laden argument with an off duty employee and kicked him out of the store while the other employee struggled to take care of the register and bar area at the same time.. Also noticed pricing seemed to be way out of whack on certain items.

Great selection! Probably the best in the area with a super clean store and easy parking. Would be a 5 if not for the prices! I'm not cheap by any means but they are very pricey to say the least!

I'll try to keep this review as open minded and honest as possible. I was excited initially when this place opened, but within a week or two prices went through the roof. The Beer Store Malvern has an absolutely great selection, there's no denying that. Having said that, some of the prices are astronomical. This guy obviously knows what he's doing and there is blatant price gouging going on. Select beers may be a dollar or two higher per six pack, than compared to the local Wegmans; which is expected for a small establishment. However, if you're going to The Beer Shop for special releases or more sought after beers, expect to give an arm and a leg. I've been stopping in periodically to check it out and see how things are going, but I will continue to give my business more so to Wegman's and Whole Foods. If you're in the area and looking for something specific, I would advise checking out Wegman's (Malvern) and Whole Foods (Devon) first.

My rating: Selection is great for Pennsylvania, and they have some hard to find stuff. Service is fairly decent, and I have yet to have a bad experience or be treated poorly - although, I have seen the store owner treat his employees absolutely terrible, twice now. Vibe and Quality I listed as 1.00 due to their pricing structure. The overall store is very clean, but the aisles are very narrow. Also, be careful about purchasing IPAs here. They have posted stuff for sale that is out of season (i.e. Victory Harvest Ale) and is easily a few months old. Bottom line, all this place cares about is generating revenue and its very evident - beware.

Also, for what it's worth, the 5/5 rating by pjmccarthy63 on January 15th was an obvious planted review by The Beer Store. It's his only review (beers or places), and the guy has had no activity on this site since the review date.

I plan to keep an updated list of ridiculous pricing I've seen compared to other local places:

-Deschutes The Abyss (2014): Wegman's, $13.99 (no tax); The Beer Store $22.99 (+tax). 11/30/14

-Cascade Figaro: TJ's Paoli, $26.50 (no tax); The Beer Store, $39.99 (+tax). 12/20/14
