I called Melissa in search of a keg for a wedding rehearsal dinner. She was kind enough to source a 1/6th of Temescal's pilsner which we loved. Melissa also hooked us up with a tap gratis. She even opened early so I could pick up the keg in time to get settled before the party.

If you are in Oakland and looking for the widest and best choice of local and regional beers that are fresh and well curated, definitely go to the Good Hop and tell Melissa that Geoff from Boston sent you !

Great spot in Uptown, very friendly & knowledgeable staff. Two designated sour taps and one designated cider tap. Good bottle selection with a little something for everyone, at reasonable prices. They don't serve food but do occasionally have a food truck for larger events, and you can also bring in food from the pizza place or burrito shop a few doors down. They also have 2 TVs for sports in addt'n to their digital tap list. One of my faves, I'm here often!

Stopped by here late afternoon to grab the recent (available in store the day after canning) release off 'Contains No Juice' from Alvarado Street Brewery.

Vibe (4.5): New building with a fresh new feeling inside made up of mostly wood grain and stainless steel with bold solid colors about. Definitely has the clean up the neighborhood vibe to it with the evident contribution to gentrification but such is Oakland these days. There was a handful of patrons enjoying beers on tap that were obviously strangers to one another yet all conversating as a group and seemed non intimidating as they shared laughter and dialog.

Quality (4.75): This is where the connoisseurs come to play. Their attention to detail / access to product / standards are all top notch. This place is a serious gem that really has limited competition and conceptually has hit the target.

Service (5): With this being a smaller bar / store front there was only one bartender present during my visit. She was extremely warm and welcoming. As I browsed their coolers I noticed her engagement with patrons which added to the overall vibe of the place. Upon checkout I asked details about my purchase and she was very informative, letting me know which days this particular brewery delivered each week and gave tips to ensure I always could have the best chance to get my hands on some.

Selection (4.75): Whether it be the beers on tap or their fully stocked well lit display of coolers surrounding the back wall... every selection this place had to over was top notch! I was elated to have such easy access to beers that I simply would not get my hands on otherwise due to distance / limited availability. Fresh is the name of the game here. They specialize in limited and rare releases with a quick turnaround and constant rotation. Simply put they have access to beers that you just won't find at the majority of other store fronts.

Great selection of local beers in the fridge AND on tap. You can grab a beer and enjoy while you shop. Selection on tap, while not huge, is going to have something for everyone. I saw 4 or 5 that I really wanted, but I was short on time, so I could only have one. Definitely worth a stop by.

Awesome spot on Telegraph Ave where you should go if you care more about what you are drinking than who you are with or where you are. They have the digital tap monitoring system in place which is somewhat helpful, but the best part in my opinion is the reasonably priced bottle selection that only costs an additional $1 corkage fee.

This is one of the best new places to grab a brew in the east bay.
The business is not even a year old (open in 2014), and they are killing it.

Vibe [4]: Wood, stainless steel, and glass. Seems a little sterile at first, but the warmth of the great patrons and staff makes up for it. Always a friendly and interesting gathering of people here.
Quality [4.5]: Prices are pretty good (~$6-7) for draft offerings. They will let you bring in food and have some snacks there as well. The beer is always fresh. They also have fair bottle prices and low corkage fee.
Service [5]: This is where the good hop shines IMO. Whether it is Melissa, Jeremy, or Monte behind the bar, you know they are going to take care of you. These guys are great.
Selection [4.5]: Lots of rotation on the draft offerings. Typically a little heavy on hoppy offerings (hence the name), but there are always some great alternatives.
