500ml bottle bought from McHughs, Dublin

Poured a deep amber red colour. Light mocha head poured fairly thick and foamy with a frothy topping then faded quite quickly to wispy covering with thick edging that climbs up the glass... no real carbonation... some decent lacing lines...

Aroma - Light grassy and piney hops, some nuttiness, sweet caramel and biscuit malts, quite bready, some over ripe fruits (oranges, some pears), light molasses, floral notes, orange marmalade...

Taste pretty much mirrors the aroma - piney and floral hops backed by caramel malts and biscuity notes, orange marmalade fruitiness... quite bready too..

M&D - Quite sharp and dry... light / medium bodied... A good sessionable brew at only 4.8%...

Overall - A very good Amber ale and very quaffable... recommended

Hoppier than I expected. Drinking in Dublin.

Appearance: Dark ruby red colour... Thin off white head.

Aroma: Malty, biscuity and caramel. Has the aroma of a classic Irish red.

Taste: Nice mouth feel, the aggressive bitterness overrides the malty undertones.

Syrupy dark amber with a film of taupe. 3.5
Sticky caramel nose with a hint of orange rind. 3.5
Solid toffee, and thread of roasty chocolate nib, then Seville orange and resin plus floral hops notes as it warms. 3.75
Mango finish and long bitter birch bark linger.
Medium, chewy, round. 3.5

Undercarbed and too heavy - at sub 5%, it just shouldn’t be this chewy. Opens and mellows at cellar temp, and what citrus there is plays out nice and jaggedy. But not bringing the hops enough to call it American; Black’s are still the benchmark for using Citra in a 5% beer in Ireland. 3.75
