Sometimes called a “Red IPA”, Bombay Rouge combines the deep red color of a substantially malty ale with an IPA hopping profile. The combination creates a unique West Coast drinking experience.

I've always said this brewery is in the toughest place in the world in terms of a competitive market (just blocks from Russian River). Their staying power is remarkable.
Drank July 2015. A slightly darker than average red color, leans almost into mahogany, brown. Beige ring of head 1/4". Smacks of bittering hops, Centennial and Cascade in the aroma, next to the familiar earthiness of them red malts giving tobacco, tree bark, caramel, nuttiness and falling leaves. Not exactly the 'red ipa' thought that comes to mind, but it is what it is.
Taste is still that C hop red maltiness train ride you've been on for over 20 years. They didn't skimp on the bittering hops, this one has every bit of the proclaimed 71ibus, but it isn't excessive, there is a solid maltiness that does its job, keeping the elevated alcohol from dominating the mouth feel, as well as keeping the C hop/Simcoe like bitterness in its wheelhouse. Definitely better than the average red ale out there.

Bottle from BevMo. dark amber, opaque. Tiny ring of head. Sweet malty aroma. Malts follow through to the taste also, taking a more bitter tone. Some earthy tobacco and leathery notes. Metallic, bitter on the tongue, but fades.

First time I had this red ale a friend had brought over two 32oz crowlers from down south. I was super impressed by this Red, it was like drinking fruit punch from a 32oz can, some of the better hop complexities i've ever experienced right there with "fresh Squeezed" (when its fresh lol.)
It was such a fruity hop forward offering and I couldn't wait to try some more.
Had a few disappointing bottles that I think where stored incorrectly, but the offering straight from tap is quite the amazing Red Ale.

Beautiful coppery color. Very hoppy and quite bitter. Citrus tang and grapefruit peel bitterness. It really does taste of grapefruit. Lovely sudsy mouthfeel. Malty body and a kiss of sweetness. Really an interesting IPA with a big dose of hops.

Smell: Hoppy, Malts
