A rich amber/walnut brown liquid is capped by a wonderful towering head of off white foam that lingers and leaves excellent lacing behind it.
The nose brings wonderfully rich notes of cherry or apple wood, light caramel sweetness with touches of vanilla, all buoyed by wonderful dried fruit notes.
Taste has a pleasant roastiness with hints of coffee and oak. There is the hint of bourbon in a wonderfully subtle way with just a bit of the grainy sweetness the liquor offers.
Mouthfeel really drives home the beauty of a nice lager. So full of flavor but a nice crisp body that leaves the door open to drinking as much of this as you can find.
Overall this is a wonderful beer. Great flavor, supremely drinkable. If you doubt the rise of the dark lager let this beauty open your eyes

12oz bottle poured into a snifter
Batch 2
A- pours a deep brown color with a one-finger creamy off-white head that has great retention, some lacing left behind
S- smells of charred malt, chocolate, caramel, earthy barrel and bourbon, hint of coffee
T- sweet malt up front with hints of chocolate, light bourbon barrel notes in the mid-palate, the finish is salty-like, with a longer of sweet malt
M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a creamy finish
O- a barrel aged black lager? An interesting combination that leads to more barrel notes than with a stout/Porter

Received as an extra in a trade.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice deep dark black with an enormous three finger mocha head that fades slowly to leave a dense, creamy blanket.
S - Aromas of lightly roasted malts, flashes of earthy hops. Decent amount of bourbon and barrels. Nice oaky vanilla notes, almost cookie like.
T - Taste is similar to the nose. Roasted malts are really soft as is some slight dark chocolate. The bourbon is on the lighter side though the barrel notes are nice. Good oak, vanilla...fair amount of barrel vanilla in fact. Finish is slightly bitter, almost astringent.
M - Mouthfeel is a bit lowly carbonated and the body is a tad on the thinner side.
O - Overall this was a very interesting beer. Not exactly how 'true to style' this was, however, it didn't taste bad. Nice use of barrel here. Just wish the mouthfeel was a big fuller.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a half finger, light khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark malt, bourbon, and astringent wood. Flavor is dark, lightly toasted malt, bourbon and woody oak. Finishes with mild toasted malt with a little caramel, bourbon and lingering tart woody oak with perhaps some light hops. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This is an interesting one. The flavors are not all that complex and at different moments there seems to be too little malt support, then too much bourbon, then the wood is bit astringent, but then it all comes together. I really looked forward to each taste and liked the lingering flavors. This has a lot of characteristics of an American strong ale, but stepped back a bit. Somehow this should not have worked, but it is off-beat and still fun to drink. The wood astringency could be backed off a little, but isn't a big issue. This makes me want to try the regular Jinx Remover. Intersting.

I have never had a imperial lager nor have I had a bourbon barrel aged one! The look was of a quad maybe a tad darker with head that fads. Smell was nice and bourbons with subtle classic lager notes coming through. It tastes just like the smell and completely in balance. Felt slightly effervescent and dry but it's a lager so it should. Very inviting mouthfeel which kept me sucking it down! Overall this is very good I will definitely try to land another. -Cheers-
