New Guy IPANew Guy IPA
BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Atlantic Brewing Company / Mainely Meat BBQ
Maine, United States
atlanticbrewing.com

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
With the recent explosion of over-the-top hopped IPAs, we wanted to return to an India Pale Ale that was well-hopped, but still balanced and smooth. Our brewers wanted to name it after one of our hardworking staffers, so we decided to name it after Daveā€”the new guy. This beer is made with one hundred percent Columbus hops and only one malt, yielding a nice earthy tone and spicy flavors. Columbus hops have a citrusy profile, which is more subtle than that found in most IPAs.

The appearance is a golden brown body gave a small white head appeared for less than twenty seconds. It showed little carbonation. Barely any lacing was shown. The smell was based around the hops with some slight citrus notes. A bit of pine was combined with the malts. The taste has some citrus in front of the hops with the pine notes taking more of a background. The palate is basically a medium with a smooth yet tingly sort of feel. Overall, this was a pretty good beer. I would have it again.

Nice herby after taste with real ch go bitterness light and crisp as usual. Definite complexity that makes it a head above other IPAS. drank last nite in bar harbor 2017

On tap at the Looking Glass restaurant in Bar Harbor, ME. A somewhat standard pale ale look to this - clear, light copper/amber, thin white head. Nice hops in the aroma - some citrus. Taste is good, nice balance of hoppy bitterness and malt sweetness, with a slight hop aroma/flavor. Mouth is medium-thin, on the dry side, refreshing. Overall, a solid pale ale.

A: Pours an orange-amber color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a decent cap

S: Piney and earthy notes up front with a caramel malt backbone

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the pine and earthy notes with a moderate-high bitterness and then goes into a lightly sweet caramel maltiness that hardly tames the bitterness. Finishes with lingering earthy notes, light caramel sweetness, and lingering bitterness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Fairly raw bitterness almost singles this one out. The malt does a decent job at balancing, but it could do much better. In other words, it's very Columbus-y and could use a little fleshing out. Definitely old-school IPA, though, so try it out if you're into those
