The owner and the staff are great and ready to help out and answer questions. I have never had a problem with them being out of something and have been there several times. Sometimes i go in just to pick up items for recipes I am making and I have been there with no recipe just an idea of what I wanted to brew and they helped come up with a recipe that turned out great. I am new to homebrewing and they have helped out a lot. I agree with another poster that the store does look sorta like a barn, but who cares the quality of the product is good, they know what they are talking about, and they have just as much time for someone who is brewing their 1st, 6th, 20th or XXX batch of beer.

Visited yesterday with a few friends. Located in a small strip mall in ritzy Los Altos. very near Palo Alto.

Coming from Santa Cruz County I was impressed with the selection of grain, hops, and yeast. Not to mention the outstanding selection of brewing hardware-if you need it they have it. My friends picked up some ingredients to make a FW Union Jack IPA and I a book on formulating beers. Service was attentive but no over powering .

If you brew this is the place to go on the peninsula unless you want organic

Ok, so they changed the name of this store from Fermentation Frenzy to More Flavor, that is, from an awesome name to just about the most boring name anyone could ever think of. Good job, guys. I should dock you some points for that, but I won't.

This is a decent homebrew shop. As for ambiance, well, it's a homebrew shop. Take that how you will. The selection of malts is very nice and they have some great kits if you're into that kind of thing, including a Pliny the Elder clone kit produced by Vinnie C. himself. The selection of equipment also covers pretty much everything you'll probably want.

The one thing they're lacking on at times is hops. I know there's a hop shortage, but damn it, there are times when my first 3 choices are all out of stock. All the "sexy" hops that brewers brag about using are unlikely to be found here. You want something like Simcoe or Nelson Sauvin? Not a chance. But you can have all the Glacier, Willamette, and Vanguard you want.

Staff is usually very helpful and laid back, although occasionally you'll get someone who can be a bit d-baggy. Overall though, great place to live 2 miles from!

This place was bought out by MoreBeer so is now one of their retail locations. It is a bit on the small side but likely has anything that you're looking for. Good selection of ingredients such as grains and hops. They are supplied by the headquarters in Concord. They can order anything from the main store if you need it. Very helpful service as well. I love their recipe kits, they are very easy. Very high quality stuff as MoreBeer is known for. This is probably the best homebrew shop in the Silicon Valley.

Let me qualify this a little bit by saying that this is the first Homebrew shop I have ever been to. I went into the store as a total newbie, never having brewed a batch before, and was helped by Phil, the former owner of Fermentation Frenzy (now manager of More Beer?) Anyway, he really made me feel welcome and pointed me in the right direction. If it wasn't for this excellent guidance, I would have been really lost in there.

I needed all of the equipment as well as a brew kettle, bottles, and ingredients for my first brew, a porter. They have nice pre-packaged recipes with pre-measured amounts of all the necessary grains and hops for beginners like myself. It did seem a bit pricey, but I did not really check into how much the type of equipment I bought would cost elsewhere.

Phil seems genuinely interested in helping beginning homebrewers like myself get started off on the right foot, to keep them coming back after succeeding, and I'll bet it works...

I would highly recommend this shop to anyone.

P.S. Phil also informed me that they are in contact with the head brewers of Rogue and Russian River for certain recipes. For example, he said they even have the Pliny The Elder recipe available for Homebrewers to take a whack at, this really surprised me! I will try that at some point down the road for sure.

They have recently changed from Fermentation Frenzy to another More Beer store. The previous owner and now current employee Phil is incredibly helpful. The store is set up pretty nicely and their selection seems to be fairly complete, although on this trip I wasn't looking for anything too exotic. They have not only beer brewing supplies, but wine fermenting and coffee roasting equipment and supplies as well. The prices seemed a bit high for me coming from upstate NY, but that could just be that everything is more expensive out here.

While living in Sunnyvale, Fermentation Frenzy was the closest homebrew shops nearby. Pretty disappointing. Fermentation Frenzy looks like a barn. The place is bare bones in terms of decor. Which is fine, I guess, since we're there for the beer. You just have to have faith that they're keeping things clean and organized.

The staff is fairly knowledgable but not so easy on the beginning homebrewer. They don't have beer kits, but if you talk to the owner, he can suggest a good recipe. They often run out of things; like, once they gave me some amber malt because they didn't have enough pale malt extract for me, or something like that. And they didn't have bottling sugar once. Sheesh.

Since I'm a beginning homebrewer, I hate altering the recipes in front of me, because I don't know what the alterations will do. And I'd like to taste the recipe as it was intended before I make changes. I suppose a more experienced homebrewer might find the store satisfactory.
