From tasting notes 11/04/18
Had on-tap at The Answer Brewpub in Richmond, VA

Appearance - Served in a 10oz stemless, black in,color with a frothy, tan finger width head sitting on top. Retention for days. Finally dies to a thin, consistent layer of suds. Strong lacing covers the glass in intricate webbing and spotting.

Smell - Chocolate, earth, roasted coffee, coconut and a good amount of nuttiness to boot.

Taste - Follows the nose. Fudgy chocolate upfront and throughout with lesser coffee earth and roast. Fair coconut. Nuttiness comes through near the finish with hazelnut and then the macadamia. Aftertaste is still heavy on the fudge while the other flavors fade.

Mouthfeel - Full bodied with low carbonation. Thick, syrupy texture with a dry, sticky finish.

Overall - Tasty as hell, but man does it sit with you. Can get cloying for sure with all that fudginess. I couldn't imagine drinking more than this 10oz glass.

Poured out as a dark black color with a thing ring of foam around the edge of the glass. The smell of the beer has a lot of chocolate on the nose. The taste is like liquefied snickers bars, lots of nutty sweet chocolate and caramel flavors in this one. The feel is full bodied. Overall it's a good beer if you're into sweet stouts. Otherwise you may wanna look elsewhere.

On draft at The Answer.

Near black body with a thin beige collar.

The aroma is otherworldly. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar, coconut. A German chocolate cake for the olfactory senses.

Incredibly rich flavor. Abundant sweetness with minimal alcohol presence. Brownie batter with additional notes of coffee, toast, vanilla, coconut.

The mouth feel is pure silk. Astounding.

A world class imperial stout. What a fun beer. A must try.

On tap at brewery, half pour:
Comes out flat and looking like coffee.

Smell is outrageously strong and amazing. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, macadamia, it's all in there and jumping at my nostrils.

Ok, diabetic warning, this beer is sweet, seemingly residual sugars, the vanilla isn't helping deter this. Nuttiness is washed over, but breaks free. Coconut is light, but comes in from nose as I sip to help create an Almond Joy impression. Barrel isn't distinctly noted.

Not as thick as the sweetness indicates, but oily slick.

Enjoyable dessert beer, I'd truly suggest not trying it as anything but. But if the situation fits, try this.

On tap at The Answer in Richmond, under "The Andall" section.

This is billed as a barrel aged barleywine/stout but it looks and tastes like a true imperial stout. Pitch-black and still, heavy looks and all the sweetness and aroma of other Andall beers I have tried (kona coffee, hazelnut, macadamia, Tahitian vanilla, toasted coconut).

Works well, but it is not my favorite Andall/Answer concoction.

L: Had this beer on-tap at The Answer Brewpub, poured into a snifter glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick consistency. There was a small amount of foamy, tan-colored head that quickly dissipated. Pretty good lacing.

S: A big, enticing aroma of vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, and coconut.

T: Tasted of a good amount of coffee, light coconut notes, some chocolate (mostly in the finish), a bit of hops (mostly in the finish), and a good shot of vanilla. An incredibly complex, powerful, inviting flavor that gets better as you go along. Very tasty and well-balanced.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a super-smooth finish. Full-bodied.

O: An excellent example of the imperial stout style. Extremely easy to drink.
