Go big with our First Trax Brown Ale! Brewed with eight specialty malts, we created a surprisingly smooth chocolaty and nutty brew. Refreshing and fulfilling, it's the perfect close to a day in the mountains all year long. Brewed with eight specialty malts this deep brown ale has a surprisingly smooth mouthfeel. Roasted malts result in a wonderful chocolaty & nutty brew.

My review is the same as the Fernie comment. Its too bad the flavour is so mellow and boring. This brewery is/has become too commercial which....is inevitable right ? Good ideas are being watered down and hurting the brand. my thoughts..... still drinkable though.

This is like a light porter, not so much a brown.
Pours more Cola in darkness with a rich tight head.
Smells of caramel, coffee and chocolate, no nut.
Flavour matches the nose but with a touch of nutiness and some malt sweetness.
I like it just not what I expected.

12oz can served in pint glass. Beer pours a rich cola brown and forms a huge, sweet head. Aroma is sweet and faintly nutty. Flavor is much more neutral, i.e., bland. This beer is an English Brown Ale only in the sense that it doesn't have too much flavor, which is a shame. Drinkable, but not very interesting, and only a little better than nominally a brown ale.

Tasting notes: A warm, rich nutty malt flavor. Hazelnuts, toffee ... A little milk chocolate pudding. Slight molasses. Gentle grassy hops. Initial impression is quite sweet, but the palate is cleaned nicely after each sip. Body has just the right degree of chew (on the thin side of medium), perhaps more fizzy than is suitable for the style. High malt flavor marks, even if a few other aspects are a tad wonky.

First Trax - I found this Fernie Brewing Company beer to be an enjoyable and very drinkable beer. Not anything fancy or extreme, just a solid basic brown ale which I enjoyed drinking. Light roasted barley and chocolate flavor without being overbearing. Hops were behaving well too. Had a couple during the 2015 Grape Escape event in Calgary. The team is a friendly bunch and so is the little town of Fernie, BC.

I have always held a soft spot in my hear for this beer - it is one of FBC's longest-running and most consistent brews. For the longest time, it was a treat that I associated with our annual "Weekend At Fernie's" getaway, but it is now widely available. It's a decent brown ale, nothing more and nothing less. This beer is best enjoyed in a hot tub with a mountain view or at a slopeside patio while wearing ski boots. It won't let you down, but it won't amaze you unless you are in the right setting.

On tap while watching roller derby at the Royal City Curling Club.
Smelled and tasted of molasses. I found this overly sweet without much complexity. It wasn't really what I'd expect of a brown ale - I don't even really taste the roasted malts, it just tastes sweet. A bit disappointing.
