Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Native to the Rocky Mountain region, the Huckleberry is prized for its sweetness and deep colour. We’ve blended it with a touch of wheat to create a smooth and creamy beer with a touch of huckleberries. Great for the summer patio season, cosy inter-season dinners or your finest apres ski. We’ve added the berry juice after filtration, giving a subtle purple colour and a slight haze, with a tartly sweet finish.

Appearance - Pours a pale raspberry colour with three fingers of bubbly blush head.

Smell - wheat malts, tart berry aroma, grape juice, and hint of earthy and floral hops.

Taste - Predominately the taste is the wheat malts and huckleberries. The hops are very mild.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth, creamy with the tartness lingering.

Overall - A nice wheat ale for those who are curious to try a beer infused with fruit, The flavours are subtle but nonetheless refreshing.

Appearance is a cloudy bronze shade, with a fluffy white head. Moderate head retention. Aroma is very fruity, sort of a jammy berry-like smell. Fruit is much less prominent in the flavor. Very wheaty, with very little yeast influence (no confusing it for a hefeweizen). Beyond the bready flavors, just a touch of fruityness and a bit of phenolic flavor on the back end. Mouthfeel is on full side with smooth carbonation.

This was a pleasant surprise. While I expected more huckleberry flavor, what I got was a quality wheat beer, with a touch of berry fruityness. The huckleberry didn't stand out to me as much as several other versions in my memory, but much better than the overly fruity/sweet, watered down versions you often get with fruited wheat beers.

I love the concept behind this beer. It uses local ingredients and celebrates a mountain lifestyle. Of the huckleberry flavoured beers out there, this is certainly one of my favorite. It is hazy, not overly sweet, and remains a beer first.
