Lost Forty Brewing

Poured into a shaker pint glass, this was a cloudy and orangey shade of amber, with a pretty good sized off-white head. Nice lace. 4.25

Nice, citrusy and melon-y hop aroma. 3.75

Sweet, fruity taste up front, with a little undercurrent of bitterness. Like the nose, the prevailing flavor is of citrusy fruits and melon, but with a little more complexity and amplitude, maybe a bit of mango. 4.0

Medium bodied, with a nice, soft, creamy mouth feel. 4.0

I'm guessing this is some sort of hazy IPA, though it could also be a pale ale. The distinction anymore is hard to verbalize. Definitely a hazy version of either, that for sure, and a very easy drinking one at that. 4.0

 

One thing in this life I’ve learned is that it’s all about chemistry. Chemistry with her (ovbi); chemistry with your bartender so you get a decent pour; chemistry with your butcher so that you get a decent cut; chemistry with your priest so he doesn’t spill the beans from your latest confession; Jawbreaker playing it at their latest show… and apparently right here, as Lost Forty uses it with their water. Beer smashes.

 

Served on draft at Camp Taco downtown. Served in a snifter type glass. Says 16oz but I’m suspicious of that. Hazy golden color with a fluffy white head. Copious quantities of lacing down the sides of the glass.

Aroma is hop goodness. Citrus and floral hops dominate. All good with me.

Hop flavor has some earthy tones but still mostly citrus. Fairly complex, more so than most other NE IPA I’ve had. Smoothie drinker and a delicious offering. Well done!

Pours a hazy mango color with a dense oatmeal colored head that provides substantial lacing. Lovely hazy. The nose is crammed with tropical citrus notes, primarily mango, with papaya, guava, and passion fruit as well. Oh my.

The mango is prominent and delicious in the taste, as are the more exotic papaya, guava, and passion fruit flavors, and there’s a nice creamy oat flavor that works exceptionally well.

The mouthfeel is medium and fairly bright. This beer is truly a pleasure to drink, and one I’d seek for my beer fridge if if had regular access to it. Really good stuff here.

Second beer from this brewery for me

Brewers Notes: Lots of haze from heavy hopping as well as a heavy hand of protein-rich adjuncts i.e. oats and malted wheat. Rich, smooth mouthfeel due to the water chemistry. Loads of hop flavor and aroma. Big Tropical Fruit and Stone Fruit flavors and aromas.

Chilled 12 oz can poured into a Nordic IPA glass, hazy mango colored liquid, thin white big bubbled pencil thick foam cap , quickly settles to a solid white layer

Aroma is juicy, topical fruits, pineapple , mango, hint of pine on the finish

Taste is tropical fruits, pineapple

Low sudsing, juicy , small hop bite, some alcohol at 7.2

It’s likely that I left this in the fridge too long as the beer I experienced was somewhat different from most of the other reviews.
The appearance and aroma were both good, no doubt, but to me the taste was harsher than even an IPA would be- not that lovely hops bite, but a rough edge at the throat.
It got better as it warmed so maybe I had it too cold as well as too long.
Any ways, I did enjoy it, just not as much as most people apparently did.

04/01/20 CAN:

7.2% ABV. "Hazy IPA." No hop varietals are specified on the 12 fl oz can (or their website) apart from Loral & Idaho 7 which are printed in obfuscation on the can's bottom next to the 03/03/2020 canned-on date. 

Turbid orange body. Off-white dull head. 

Juicy but also redolent of white grape, making me suspect Nelson may have been used? I get a lot of mellow tropical fruit - like a lot a lot. Guava, tangerine, heavy citrus, hints of lychee. I also get some green apple but it's not acetaldehyde. Malt backbone is very neutral and clean...I'd bet on pale malt/2-row and wheat. Doesn't have the oaty proteiny coating mouthfeel many so-called hazy IPAs do, to its benefit. It's refreshing and approachable. Well-carbonated and balanced for the most part, though it does finish a biteen bitter for my taste...still, that's a welcome touch when this is compared to many beers in the turbid IPA substyle (which tend to wrongfully sacrifice hop pungency to avoid hop bitterness).

I have to confess going in to my first beer from Arkansas, I didn't expect much - but this is a more than competent stab at a hazy IPA that boasts an interesting enough hop profile and is highly drinkable for its well-disguised 7.2% ABV. Might be a multiple sixer per year buy for me if I lived in the state, though I recall seeing Toppling Goliath available in the same store I nabbed this at, so I have to wonder who besides those buying local just to buy local would regularly pick this over the best of its (often equally priced) out-of-state/country competition given the latter's superiority.

B- / WORTHY

12oz can poured in to a nonic glass. Canned on 03/03/20

Look- Hazy golden orange color, modest bone white head that slowly recedes to a thin cap, ample lacing. Light carbonation streaming as it sits.

Smell- Huge tropical fruit (pineapple, passion fruit and mango), tangerine and lemon, a bit of peach and melon, bready malt, light pine and other herbal/grassy notes.

Taste- Similar to the aroma, ripe tropical fruits and citrus heavy, a bit of stone fruit and melon, light pine and grassy hop notes.

Feel- Medium bodied, pretty juicy with a faint bitter finish, incredibly balanced. Moderate carbonation on the tongue.

O- My first beer from Arkansas, let alone this brewery and it's a definite winner. Easily hangs with the heavy weights up here in the PacNW.

Store clerks and forum members have been telling me about this beer for ages and after passing it up in Arkansas last year I had to get it this year.

I'm glad I did.

This can is dated 12/4/19, "Ekuanot", and pours an opaque amber gold with a tall fluffy head of 3 fingers. Leaves lots of lace behind as it recedes.

Aroma is sharp citrus potpourri and fresh cut pine; borders on perfumery but only slightly; fruit descriptors include pineapple, mango, starfruit, and bits of sweet lemon; also some doughy crackery malt behind that. Bright sliced tangerines on the back end.

The flavor on this beer is just outstanding. Freshly cut pineapple is the biggest descriptor here, followed by sweaty mango, with lots of heavy suggestions of pine water and peppery grapefruit, and a heavy presence of resinous hop oils coats and destroys the tongue at the finish leaving trails of piney grassy bitterness, sharp peppery citrus, eucalyptus, and lemon oil.

Feel is effervescent to start with a nice pop and high carbonation, but turns oily and coats the tongue with a wet blanket of hop resin.

Overall an incredibly crafted double IPA that beckons the attention of any hop head.

 

 

 

Provided by @jvgoor3786. Dirty dark orange juice appearance with minimal head and lacing. Smell is citrusy-almost a Tang scent with a little vanilla note. Taste is mildly citrusy orange and weak lemon notes with a little sweetness and some tanginess. Slightly mouth watering, full mouth feel, light alcohol presence for over 7% abv. A very juicy beer, interesting NEIPA.

Lost Forty Trash Panda, 7.2% ABV. Pours pale yellow with a half-finger of white head. Nose is grapefruit and pine. Taste is grapefruit, malt, slight hops, slight bitter close. Excellent mouthfeel. Overall outstanding. I am not generally an IPA fan due to the typical one-note hoppy bitterness, but this is damn good, an IPA for non-IPA-fans.

My first from this brewery.

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice cloudy yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy two-finger off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, mango, apricot), nice diesel like. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, peach mango, apricot), nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV is hidden pretty nicely, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew, surprised me. Orange Julius, Addictive! Milk Shake! Thanks Russ!
