Red wine-tinted black with a thin finger of tan head. Sloppy lacing.

Light peanuts, roasted malts and very distant creamed coffee in the nose.

Peanuts, roasted malt and lactose in the taste. Very little coffee.

On the light side of medium bodied, very mildly creamy with low carbonation.

Pretty subpar. The jackasses at this brewery managed to print some mildly transphobic crap on the bottom of their can, but couldn't figure out how to print a canned-on date, so I have no idea how old it is.

Sweet chocolate, coffee, a little bitter chocolate aftertaste. I have no idea why I'm reviewing this since like all other NIP brews this is a one-off and I'll never drink it again.

Look, if you find this one, grab it. It's really good and the NIP people (person?) make the best beer in Dayton, which might sound like I'm damning them with faint praise but I mean it. There are some thriving breweries in this town that make some remarkably average beer. NIP is not one of them.

12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a small dark khaki head that quickly fades leaving okay retention and lacing. The aromas have subtle hints of anise/black licorice, cocoa and coffee. Malts are there. The flavors are bolder than the aromas. Lots of dark chocolate along with some chocolate syrup. The coffee is subtle, but noticeable. Some marshmallow in the mix. The lactose is there, but it's not too sweet. Malts do their thing. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It feels light and thin, but it works. Dangerously drinkable.

This is a pretty solid stout. It's balanced, but bold. I like it.

A twelve ounce can with no visible date poured in a 12oz. snifter.

Look- Pours a thin cola colored brown producing a couple centimeters of tan foam. No lacing is present after settling.

Smell- Bakers chocolate, coffee and marshmallow.

Taste- Milk chocolate, roasted malt, brown sugar. A hint of slightly bitter coffee appears in the finish.

Feel- Thin and slightly creamy.

Overall- While on the thin side for the style and a bit lacking in coffee for my taste buds, it's still a rather enjoyable stout. I like chocolate and it certainly didn't lack that. With some tweaking, this could be a special beer.

12 oz can poured into pint glass.

A: Pitch black body with a light mocha colored head with tiny bubbles that settles quickly.

S: Light coffee, lots of chocolate very soft notes if toasted malts.

T: Lots of chocolate and roasty malts the coffee is there in the finish but very laid back.

M: Very creamy and still a touch thin. I’d say more medium bodied than full.

O: Not a bad beer coffee isn’t as prominent as I thought it would be. The chocolate is pretty intense fairly sweet beer overall pretty easy drinking.

Can, no date:
The beer pours a typical near black to black. The head takes a second to gather and form a thin tan cap. Streams of head loiter on the surface but end in a medium collar at the edge of the glass. Very little lacing.

The nose takes some warmth to coax it from hiding. I'm getting a little more raw cocoa than coffee, though the latter is noted. A light sweetness is also perceived.

Taste has a brief neutral opening, but quickly gets dark chocolate cocoa and dark roast coffee flavor to replace it. There's a light sweetness right up front, but it is replaced by the flavors of the additional ingredients. The typical roasted malt flavor does not come to me, or it is integrated too well into the other flavors. The back end gets a little root beer/cola like (but not syrupy sweet) which thin the fairly bold yet medium body opening. There's a soft rolling carbonation in back as well.

This beer ends up almost seeming like a coffee and cocoa enhanced dark ale with the cola-like ending. The roasted flavors seem more from the added ingredients. I do happen to like dark ales, and enjoy root beer, so I actually enjoyed this beer quite well.

From the 12 oz can in a snifter. This nice little imperial stout pours a rich
blackish brown with a nice brown head that settles to a thick ring, thin light
layer, and showcases some very nice sudsy lacing. Nose of dark coffee, dark
sweet chocolate, moderate booze notes, toffee, and char touched brulee notes.
Flavors exceed the nose with coffee and dark sweet chocolate that have been given
the creme brulee touch with a touch of toffee and nutty malts doused in booze.
Nice mouth feel; medium full body, medium light carbonation, and a sweet coffee
and chocolate finish that is lightly warming.

Easy drinking for the ABV. Solid.

Cheers

Look-Dark coffee with a finger of lacing that quickly disappears.
Smell-Boozy with a hint of chocolate and coffee
Taste-Good taste, molasses, coffee, and chocolate are prominent. Does carry a bit of the booziness from the smell.
Feel-Maybe a tad watery for an imperial.
