2014 vintage; drank 1/4/15 @ the Yarchives.
Brown/black hue.
HUGE dark tan head; frothy lace.
Spicy black coffee nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Pepper heat & creamed coffee flavors up front; mild pickle juice finish. A gross mess; I couldn't finish 12 oz.

I love Southern Tier and their 2x series is basically all-around great. My sister got a bottle of this and we split it.
It pours nicely and smells alright, but I'm not digging the taste. Something about it reminds me of dry wall or paint -- very faintly, but it's there. There's a definite espresso bean quality to this beer like I'd expect, but there's a surprising amount of just too much sweetness and lack of depth.
Between that weird chemical-like flavor I'm subtly getting, almost nonstop coffee, and "sharp" sweetness, I'm left with a pretty mediocre beer. Some coffee heavy beers are excellent ... this just isn't one of them. Worth a try, but that's about it -- it's just too "eh" with too much of a three-packets-of-sugar-in-a-black-cup-of-coffee vibe.

LOOK: Super dark. Opaque. Nice tan head.
SMELL: Espresso!
TASTE: So much espresso flavor. (Far and away the dominant flavor.) Lemon very mild on the finish.
FEEL: Full, though not rich. Not memorable. Fit the stout profile.

Appearance - 4/5
A very dark and muddied red-brown color, totally opaque. A thin layer of tan head. For a stout, it has a nice look.
Smell - 3/5
Strong coffee notes, along with roasted malts, a slight fruitiness, and some alcohol. To be honest, I don't really like the smell. It's overall very weird. The coffee aspect of the smell is good, but the smell as a whole is weird. Smells border-line gross actually. Smells kinda like dirt.
Taste - 3.25/5
A *very* earthy taste (that's why I thought it smelled like dirt), with coffee, and a slight fruity aspect. Overall, way too earthy for me. It tastes like coffee beans mixed in dirt (well, hyperbolically speaking of course).
Mouthfeel - 4.25/5
Full-bodied, very thick. Medium-light carbonation. Smooth. Crisp.
Overall - 3.5/5
Overall this was an okay beer. I probably exaggerated about how bad it was above. Truth be told, as I progressed through my glass, it grew on me. Still, won't get it again.

Look: Pitch black with a thin, sticky tan head that leaves lacing.
Smell: Fresh ground coffee, milk chocolate, caramel, vanilla.
Taste: Milk chocolate, caramel, white sugar and cream; black coffee/espresso, no discernable lemon peel, lingering coffee bitterness.
Feel: Medium, creamy, smooth.
Overall: While I would like more lemon peel, I love that this wasn't too sweet and had a great coffee taste.
