Well it's noon so about time to try a breakfast type brew and this has espresso in the name so let's give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a waft of sweetness of malt and a roasted malts. Pours to a barely tranlucent motor oil with a three fonger multi-size bubble tan head. On the taste this brew has the bitterness of coffee upfront with the sweet roasted malts and a solid middle of a nearly balanced cocoa and earthy hops, finishing with a slight alcohol twinge and a fading chaulky bitter finish. Tasty indeed. More hop twangy than I expected in a good way. Great mouthfeel. A spot on brew for brunch.

Bottle to nonic pint glass, the appearance was a fairly dark brown color with a thin layer of white foamy head. Swiftly falls off to barely leave any lace. The aroma had a super sweet milk chocolate fudge maltiness. Lemon sweetness. Slight coffee beans and coffee creamer. The flavor leaned towards the sweet side comibining all of the previously mentioned aromas together. Subtle roast here, but not much. Aftertaste was milk chocolate with a touch of the lemon sweetness. Finish was long and sweet. The palate was between light and medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Body did feel low, though. Overall, Southern Tier trying to take a style that’s usually overly sweet and keeping it that way.

Soft opening at the new location in Pittsburgh. Get some lemon zest taste on this one. Leah liked this one. I was on the fence on this one. What a fun experience to usher in Southern Tier's becoming in Pittsburgh!

Poured into a standard pint glass: color is dark brown, head is light tan and presented 1 inch thick, then dissipated to a ring.
Smell is roasted malt transitioning strong coffee grounds, i see the lemon peel on the ingredient list and it is subtly noticeable.
Taste is roasted malt blended with coffee grounds, hints of lemon rind, then finishes with moderate bitterness. Lactose provides fuller flavor and lingerings sweetness.
Mouthfeel is smooth, moderate carbonation, lingering bitterness and more noticeable espresso qualities of smooth but bitter feel.
Overall s solid hybrid stout; the interplay of lactose and roast/coffee grind bitterness balances well.

2014 vintage; drank 1/4/15 @ the Yarchives.
Brown/black hue.
HUGE dark tan head; frothy lace.
Spicy black coffee nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Pepper heat & creamed coffee flavors up front; mild pickle juice finish. A gross mess; I couldn't finish 12 oz.

Overall - love the brewer and the style.
A: The beer purrs out a deep black body, a black cat with a a short, dense tan head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace trail on the glass.
S: The aroma contains grass, black coffee, roasted malts and a faint tinge of herbal hops. No char.
T: The taste up fronts with a strong black coffee flavor, then a roasted malt character with grassy, mild hops taking you to the long balanced finish. The after-taste is bitter-sweet licorice.
M: Crisp, with good weight, and smooth, medium body, carbonation, finish is balanced and slightly sticky.
O: As good as they get and I want another. Try 6.
