Psyched to see this one is out. One of my favorite fall seasonals. Looks the color of autumn. Don't get a huge smell but it could be my dry nostrils. Anyway, I love the taste of this ESB. It's definitely hop forward for an ESB, and that makes it stand out. It's not an IPA, but the hops and light malt flavor really work here. Getting an earthy flavor along with slight citrus hops. I'm loving Southern Tier's six packs lately.

Poured into a snifter while watching some Zoolander.

A: Attractive clear copper color with good lacing. She is a beauty.

S: Mostly piney hops but there is definitely malts thrown back there too.

T: Hop forward but well-balanced by bready earthy malts. Hops bring a piney taste with some citrus - nice. The perfect balance is what makes this beer fantastic.

M: Dry finish with the slightest bitterness lasting. Medium bodied.

O: A spectacular fall seasonal especially when you're tired of oktoberfests and pumpkin beers. This is a necessity every year.

This is true to the ESB style, just a more hop forward representation - as is customary for American beers.

Pours a true amber. Brilliant clarity with a jillion bubbles dancing int he pour until they finally settle down. Scant head that fell fast to some loose bubbles and a film on top.

Nose is perfect. Citrus spice and hop herbal. There's a little floral, some yeast and a nice spice. Malt is grainy and deep. Touch of caramel and a doughy sweetness.

Taste is fat with flavor. Malt is full and rich but not heavy. Citrus lightens the body and the spice is courteous and gives the palate some interest. The sweetness is light but promising. There's nice hop bitter and a deep earthy dryness that compliment each other perfectly. The sweetness is held back and it seems to want to flourish but the hops and the bread won't let it. Bubbles tickle the back of the throat lightly in the crisp dry finish. The spice tingles int he aftertaste as the citrus stays light and really lets the malt shine. Earthy, round, full malt without heaviness.

Ample, amenable, friendly, tasty, and fat. This is a great ESB that you could sip all day and never tire of the immense flavor. Southern Tier has done a good thing here. You could have a few of these.
