Tangier India Pale AleTangier India Pale Ale
Notes: Where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean is the ancient city of Tangier. This confluence has made Tangier a cultural waypoint for millenia. From Greek heroes to Cold War spies and uprisings, Tangier has inspired thousands of legendary stories. It is written that before his battle with the giant Antaeus, Hercules rested in a nearby cave. But where myths end, our tale begins. Tangier is brewed as a Session India Pale Ale with spicy citrus aromas and stone fruit flavors. These flavors, with the addition of lightly roasted malts and brilliant hop bitterness, make Tangier a beverage as refreshing as it is exotic. The approachable 4.6% abv yields more time to enjoy the synergy between the tangerine peel and spicy, citrusy, Azacca hops. Enjoy Tangier in celebration of your epic adventure.

Tangier India Pale Ale | Southern Tier Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, the head's two fingers thick, with webbed lacing, and a medium gold body.

Smells like a pleasing mix of hops and the added citrus.

I taste a non-bitter blend of the tangerine and hops.

Medium-light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Tangier India Pale Ale | Southern Tier Brewing Company gets an overall 4 out of me.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a splotchy cap; very little lacing;

S: floral tangerine;

T: follows the nose up front, then tangerine rind becomes prevalent through the finish; moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: OK, but not something I would seek out;

Southern Tier rarely disappoints and with this tangerine IPA they have produced something quite nice...

Out of the can, it produces a rusty orange colored brew with little foam and no lacing. No big deal as the smell is divine - an almost perfect blend of bitter hop notes, sweet tangerine, and maybe even a slight note of honey added in. The mouthfeel was bold and crisp, without that drying effect I sometimes get with IPAs (a big plus in my book.) The taste of tangerines and its almost perfect blendedness did not quite translate to the taste, but it was still very enjoyable - definitely more IPA than a fruit/veggie brew. Overall, I found this to be another good addition to the ST stable, with it sessionableness being a big plus.

Canned on 7-26-18.

A - Medium gold color, thin lacing, light carbonation.

S - Vinous tangerine and citrus aroma.

T - Tangerine, grapefruit, peppery fruit rind, passion fruit, nice lingering bitter stone fruit with some spicy pepper. At six weeks old, this is still very hop forward.

M - Big medium body and surprising thickness.

O - Nice flavor and thickness for such a low ABV beer.

Appearance: Clean golden amber with a nice foamy white head and lovely lace.

Aroma: Tropical fruit-forward. Very enjoyable.

Taste: Juicy with a touch of bitterness. Tangy and fruity and quite tasty. Wouldn’t turn this one down in the future.

The nose smells like Sunkist, which is a plus in my book. This is a tart, citrus infused IPA with hops up front followed by a broad biscuit note. There is definitely some graininess in the aftertaste. This is okay for a session IPA but nothing special.

Begins more hazy yellow than orange with a very big, bubbly head that settles down with a messy dry lace. Lots of tiny carb bubbles kept the head alive. Didn't have much of a nose. Slight fruit, not even juicy fruit, but the notion of the tangerine peels they brewed this with, there was a faint image. Mouth was good creamy with a slight burn from the hops and a little sour at the end like sucking a tangerine peel. That's where the fun ends I'm afraid. First impression of the taste was an IPA without the things that make IPA. Sure there is bitter but I had to swish long and hard to get just a smattering of fruit loopy sweet. One and done for me or actually three in a sampler pack of cans, this was the third. Over.

A unique taste and feel that doesn’t follow a “typical” IPA. Odd as it may sound, my first impression is more of a flavored seltzer than a beer. Zesty aftertaste. Light feel, not overly hopped. Better suited for a refreshing drink during outdoor activities on a hot summer day. If you’re looking for a “deep” flavorful IPA, this beer may fall short. STBC says this is a session IPA, and indeed its an easy drinking beer. But, even as I finished my last sip, this session ale didn’t quite satisfy the balance of hops and malt that I particularly enjoy.

A little thin and watery but not too bad.

Barely milky light orange body with medium bubbles rising chaotically, fizzy off-white head. The nose offers authentic fresh tangerine peel, some light bready malt almost like pilsner, and a dash of butter. The flaw is very minor, but then again so is almost all of it-with it was more aromatic. The taste is clean, with bright citrus and spicy hops, a bit of wheat. Solid bitterness. The feel is light and has refreshing carbonation.
This was a pleasant beer. Tasty citrus plus some characterful hops, low ABV and high drinkability. Deeeecent.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. bottled 3/13/17, so over a year old. ouch.

clear golden yellow body, light carbonation, small off white head which still manages to leave good lacing.

aroma is slightly malty and a tad musty.

the tangerine peel used is still very present, giving the beer a dominant bitter taste. the hops have faded of course, leaving a slight sourness. solid malt background. a little tingly around the edge of the tongue.

slightly above medium on the mouth, bitter on the finish.

overall, bitter citrus flavors remain, giving a 13 month old ipa a decent taste

Tangier India Pale Ale brewed by Southern Tier Brewing Company, with an ABV of 4.60% This American IPA pours out a nice golden amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with sweetness and citrus from the tangerine. Then you pick up on some nice mild hop bitterness, and earthy grains and malts. The look and smell of this American IPA is really inviting. Now for the taste, it is mild and smooth with flavors. You first pick up on tangerine sweetness, then mild hops along with earthy grains and malts. There is alot going on in Tangier India Pale Ale. The body of this American IPA is a solid medium. This is one of the more ligher American IPA on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to. This brew would go nice on a warm summer day. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down. The mouth feel is Bold, Smooth, Clean and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Tangier India Pale Ale a 4 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Southern Tier Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this American IPA.

Look - poured from a 12 oz can. pale yellow in color, two finger head and moderate lacing.
Smell - faint citrus smell (tangerines, as advertised). light grassy hoppiness as well.
Taste - hoppy but not overly bitter, the initial hoppy fragrance is followed by a mellow tangerine flavor and a nice malty finish.
Feel - light bodied, medium-high carbonation, and still packs a nice punch for a session beer.
Overall - a tasty brew that has great flavor without being overly high in ABV. Nicely done.

From a can.
Mild and tasty, a good dose of citrus flavor but on part with the session strength. Bittersweet orange peel and a smooth slick malt base. It's light enough feeling as a session ale but not so weak to be boring.

A pretty good session IPA.

Interesting refreshing flavor, but not much else going on with this one. Look is weak, little head, little lace. Color is a very light yellow. Smell is also very slight.... Citrus. Taste is on the bitter side with tangerine peels coming thru. Some malt after to smooth the finish. Feel is light.. Very little carbonation.

Pours a dark yellow with visible carbonation. Lots of bubbles and lots of lacing. Really unbalanced taste, very hop forward without a malt taste to compensate. This was part of a mixed 15 pack as I would not normally buy a "session" IPA as I don't seem to like them. Definitely not a repeat for me.

A: This poured a hazy light gold with a little white head.
S: It smelled like light citrus zest.
T: It tasted like artificial melon and citrus candy. It had an odd sweet aftertaste.
M: It was thin with moderate carbonation. Light body.
D: This was not a very good IPA. The scent and taste were not very enjoyable. They seemed manufactured and were not well integrated. The body and the finish were weak too, so it wasn't very easy to drink or enjoy. Not recommended.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy goldenstraw color with two-fingers of foam; the occasional strand lingers as the liquid is consumed

Smell: Bready, with a hint of tangerine

Taste: Just a touch of the bread in the aroma and then the floral hops take over; not too fruity and not too bitter, just some citrusy tones along with a hint of the tangerine peel; a little watery in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Quaffable but not the most exciting session IPA I have come across

Had this on 2017-11-21 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz can

A - Straw-yellow with a 2-finger head from an somewhat-explosive can. The head fades to 1/2 pretty quickly leaving nice lace.

S - Mild tangerine flesh and mild ripe pineapple. Not real strong.

T - Citrus flesh, grassy and herbal spice, pepper. Moderately bitter.

M - Light body and light-medium carbonation.

O - Not a bad session IPA but not one I'd seek out for a regular fridge beer.

Quick review: looks nice upon pour, clear orange/gold with a small head that breaks quickly. Decent lacing. Smell is nice sweet citrus, I'm guessing the tangerine peel is helping that along. The taste is nice pithy citrus, perhaps a little grassy. The feel is light with strong carbonation.

Not bad, I wish the sweetness from the nose translated a little better to the taste, but still good.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Teku glass. Brewed 7 June 2017.
A: Loose white head and a clear, gold, effervescent beer.
S: Smells floral and spicy, with strong fruity notes.
T/M: Yum! Juicy and pleasantly hoppy, with a surprisingly malty base, though a bit of a watery mouthfeel. I'm glad it's not as biscuity dry as some sessions. The tangerine isn't overpowering, but it does lend an obvious citrus-sweet note. Finish is crisp, clean, and lightly bitter.
O: Really well-executed fruity session. Highly drinkable and pleasant. Recommended.
