Reminds me more of a saison. Interesting beer nonetheless, as I haven't tasted anything quite like this. There is a tang balanced by some bitterness which I'm guessing is from the coffee bean. I think I would have preferred it without the bitter finish.

Enjoyed out of a brown 750 mL bottle with a bottling date of 10/2/15. Poured into a Belgian-style tulip glass.

Appearance (4.25) - Pours an enticing tangerine color with notes of persimmon up where the shadow of the two fingers of head darken the hue a little bit. Down at the very bottom of the glass, where the light is most able to highlight the liquid, the color is marigold. The aforementioned two finger head is stark white and shows moderate retention before fading slightly to leave a nice curtain of lace around the glass and a smattering of spotty pockets of foam across the surface of the liquid.

Smell (4.25) - I wasn't sure what to expect here, since I took so long to get around to drinking this, but a ton of citrus hits me right in the olfactory. Candied orange peel, tangerine and some notes of grapefruit are all front and center, with a little bit of sweet grain and herbal, almost vegetal aromatics lurking in the background. Still, I love how much orange is bursting out of this glass.

Taste (3.5) - Here is where things aren't quite as successful. The orange is still there, by mere virtue of the smell being so prolific. However, more traditional tripel notes come through as well, with bready sweetness moving in to relieve the bright citrus upon initial consumption. The finish, however, is where I finally get the presence of the green coffee bean, and though I didn't know quite what to expect, this isn't really terribly appealing to me. In one respect, the green coffee has become a stand-in for hops, supplying a considerable amount of bitterness, but on the other hand, the type of bitterness just doesn't work quite as well for me. It's very vegetal and doesn't quite meld with the other flavors the way I feel like it should.

Mouthfeel (4.0) - Medium-bodied and creamy, with moderate carbonation. Finish is bitter.

Overall (4.0), an interesting and I think ultimately successful beer. The aroma is just outstanding, and even though the taste falls flat for me, I had no problem finishing my pour. Though I wouldn't liken this to an IPA, the bitterness of the green coffee really does bring out a reminiscence to those Belgian IPAs that are somewhat of a Tripel/IPA hybrid.

It's kind of spicy. Not sure why. Not totally true to the style.
