We’ve long brewed a “locals only” beer dubbed Raspberry Wheat. Since our first batch, it has rarely been available outside the surrounding area of our brewery in Western NY State. We’ve heard fan after fan clamor for wider distribution. The time is now. Over the years, we’ve fine-tuned our house brew into a beautifully crisp & slightly sweet wheat beer brewed with malted barley, unmalted wheat & raspberry puree. Perfectly balanced, light bodied & raspberry tart, Raspberry White is ready to take on the world one bottle at a time.

L: Cloudy dark pink with a thin white head and a little bit of lacing. Some floating sediment chunks are visible.

S: Raspberry jam--sweet and cooked and jammy, but also some tartness of fresh raspberry with the seeds. Just a hint of cracker malt and minty grass as well.

T: Very light crackery malt with more subdued raspberries. There's some tartness and seediness, but very little sweetness or overly raspberry flavor. Leaning more toward pink Kool-Aid, with a slightly bitter earthy/grass finish.

F: Very light and watery, medium carbonation.

O: If only the taste lived up to the awesome aroma. A promising but somewhat disappointing raspberry wheat ale.

This will be my opening salvo in New Southern Tier Beer Sunday (Week 713) when it opens, but I want to get a head start in the interim since it is past Midnight (EDT). Most of what I have for today is in Bottles, but if I progress quickly enough, I may delve into The CANQuest (tm)! Needless to say, I have plenty to keep me occupied, especially with my 1st shift gig at CKW 2nd Gear running from 1030 to 1630.

From the Bottle: "Seasonal"; "Wheat Beer brewed with Raspberries"; "Why the hell not?"

I did a good bit of in-bottle agitation before Pop!ping the cap since I wanted to ensure that any lees that may have settled onto the punt were back in suspension. My efforts paid off in that not only was my intent met, but I also got just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, pinkish head with good retention to boot! It was kind enough to leave me a good bit of lacing on its departure as a memento. Color was a cloudy Pinkish-Amber (SRM = N/A). Nose smelled like my late-paternal grandmother's red raspberry bush in full bloom! They were the first fruit that I used to make preserves as a budding culinary student. To say that the nose was sweet or perfume-y would be to do it an injustice. It had a pronounced raspberry presence, at any rate. Mouthfeel was medium to full, not quite creamy but on the approach. The taste was not as pronounced in terms of its raspberry presence, but that was okay by me. If I wanted full-on Raspberry, I would drink a Framboise. This was more subtle, but still easily identifiable as raspberry with a light tartness and a slight tang from the wheat. The problem arises when reviewing to Style &not to personal taste. It lacked spice(s) & the Style descriptor does not allow for fruit adjuncts of this nature. 8=( Finish was semi-dry, very refreshing and this is also puzzling since it is a Winter seasonal, but it would be much better on a hot, humid Summer's day. Hmm. I now leave it to you to decide for yourself.

On tap. Poured a cloudy, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of raspberry and faint hints of wheat. Sweet raspberry flavor but not much else.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazy pink-golden pour with 2 fingers of pink tinged head. Great sticky ring of lacing.

S: Light raspberries and grain. Fruity.

T/F: Raspberry forward... fruit juice... not terribly sweet which is a good thing. Light grain/wheat character, but lacking the usual complexity of a true wit. No significant spice... no tartness from the fruit. Light bodied... well carbonated. More raspberry at the finish.

O: A fairly 1-dimensional raspberry beer. Not much of a witbier, but overall easy drinking. No bad flavors... this goes into the 'lawnmower beer' category. Love the low ABV for the coming summer.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. DOB 12/7/17, so 4 months old.

pinkish rose wine colored body, with small but persistent pink/white head. good lacing.

shockingly enough, it smells like raspberries!

raspberry flavor, a little tart, turning more sour toward the end of the drink.

just below medium on the mouth, sour/bitter finish.

overall, and i like raspberries, this one was just a bit off in the aftertaste department.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 4.6% abv

Appearance- Light pink, raspberry in color. White head with a pinkish hue. Hazy.

Smell- Wheat, berries.

Taste- Soft grainy flavor of wheat and sweet raspberry flavors follow. Some tartness, but more so sweet. Finishes dry with a berry like finish.

Mouthfeel- Light in body with medium carbonation.

Overall- An easy drinking, light witbier that makes good use of flavoring. The flavors aren't all too bold, but this beer would be ideal for a warm weather/spring day.

From the label: "DOB 12/07/17 10:07AM"

Appearance: The body of the beer is a delightful pink color with hints of red grapefruit color and light orange. The head is medium sized, creamy textured, and starts out more of a pink color but turns to white. It is an absolutely gorgeous beer. It has very good retention and lacing. Picture perfect.

Aroma: There is a fresh raspberry aroma to the beer, similar to what you would smell in the produce section of a market or grocery store. Normally there is this slight "souring fruit" aroma that comes from beers that use real fruit (which is fine) but it is noteworthy that this does not have it.

Taste: There is a very light flavor of raspberry mixed with the taste of shredded wheat.

Mouthfeel: The body feels light but slightly textured and creamy. It finishes wet.

Overall: This is, hands down, an outstanding beer. It is very simple and to the point with a delicate raspberry flavor mixed with wheat. The beer itself is light enough that it would be a great addition to a picnic or outdoor gathering where people are normally serving things like watermelon and lemonade. I recommend it and I would drink it again. It's a perfect beer for Spring, Summer, or an Indian Summer.
