L: Clear yellow with a small white head.

S: Lemon candy, sugar with citric acid powder, lemon zest, a little crackery malt.

T: Big lemon candy sweetness upfront, candied lemon peel sprinkled with sugar, but also some tartness of lemon juice. A little bit of crackery malt in the middle with a hint of faint grassy hop character. There's another pop of lemon candy on the finish before a bit of lingering lemon peel bitterness.

F: Medium-light mouthfeel, moderate carbonation, lightly dry.

O: A decent summer slugger. Super lemony!

Clear and yellow (almost crayon, neon yellow). Little to no head. The aroma has a spice, lemon rind, pepper, and an underlying malt scent. The taste is dry. Bitter. Lots of citrus in the flavor. Medium body. Interesting, flavorful, but it doesn't come together for me.

Southern Tier Brewing Co. "Lemon Drop Sun"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "DOB 05/31/17 10:52AM" and sampled on 08/03/17 6:05PM
$2 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label. "Wheat beer brewed with lemons" - I guess they're real lemons. 5.1% ABV so there's nothing funny going on. Pours a very clear yellow gold body beneath a short head of white that fades readily. Some spotty lacing is left behind but that's it. The aroma is bright and clean with - you guessed it - lemon. There's some light wheat malt as well but the lemon is the main note. Ahh, that seems to describe the whole beer, 'the lemon is the main note'. There's not a whole lot else in the flavor. Not that that's bad, but it is a kind of one-trick pony. It's lightly acidic, moderately bitter, and then the malt follows in the finish once the lemon has passed. I don't know, but I like it. Perfect summer beer. The lemon appears real, and it's not too little or too much - perhaps borderline too much for some but not for me. There are some hops there, I get them in the burp, and I guess in the background all along but there's not much. The wheat is nice though, nice that that note comes through. Nicely balanced in my opinion, and not a sweet or candyish beer at all. Medium bodied and crisp, but not too much though. I can imagine having one of these at a ball game, or backyard BBQ, or just relaxing on the beach. I'm not sure I'd want more than one though, I think I'd want to switch it up, but that first one would go down easy. So, have I missed anything? No, I think that about covers it.

My next bottled horizontal takes me into the realm of Southern Tier with a potential for a foray into The CANQuest (tm). First though, this bottle.

From the bottle: "Wheat Beer Brewed with Lemons"; "Why the hell Not?"

I Pop!ped the cap & briefly toyed with a heavy-handed pour since it was a wheat beer, but the pictures that I had seen of it evinced a nice clarity. I went with a light pour, followed by a vigorous in-glass swirl to raise two fingers of soapy, rocky, foamy, bone-white head with moderate retention. Color was a pretty Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled strongly of lemons, accompanied by the tang produced by the use of wheat malt. Mmmm. Mouthfeel was kind of thin, not exactly watery, but pretty light. The taste was very tangy, not sour as I kind of expected from the lemons, but with a biscuity maltiness that put me in mind of Enrico's lemon biscotti from Pittsburgh's Strip District. Mmm. Finish was dry, but very refreshing & it really should be one of the ones that they CAN, especially for the summer. Very tasty & a good cooler CANdidate, but sadly, in bottle format. 8=(

12 oz. Bottle
DOB: 03/12/18

Poured into a Trillium glass a pretty nice clean/clear golden yellow color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which also leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with a nice touch of lemon, wheaty/grassy. The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, nice touch of lemon, grassy. Medium body, ABV is hidden very well, nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew, nice thirst quencher.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass

L: Clear light golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head. Falls quickly. Patchy lacing.

S: Lemonade... tart with a bit of yeast.

T/F: Tastes like a radler... lemonade mixed with light beer. Definite lemon drop candy... slightly sweet/tart. Not much wheat character.. a little grain and yeast but mostly lemonade/shandy. Thin bodied... well carbonated. Finish is sweet and tart.

O: Pretty much a standard radler. Nothing crazy here and not a lot of 'beer' character but tasty enough and refreshing for a hot summer day.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my weizen glasses, this beer pours a clear, light to medium golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a big white head well over an inch thick when first poured. Settles eventually to a very thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a thick surface coating of foam and pretty good lacing. Aromas of some bready, grainy malts, some wheat, along with some grassyness and certainly some lemon. The taste is pretty much the same, with some bready, grainy malts along with definite wheat and certainly some citrus lemon. Not much discernible hops here, just a slight bitterness. An okay flavor profile overall, but not great. Has a fairly crisp, surprisingly smooth and slightly frothy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish with a lemony aftertaste. Not a bad summertime beer.

Pours clear, light gold in color with 3/4 inch head. Taste is lemon juice, lemon rind and wheat. Lemon really comes out as it warms but is not in your face at first. Light bodied, sweet and tart, with moderate carbonation. Makes for an interesting, above average wheat ale. Nothing I would rush out for but decent.

Lemon Drop Sun brewed by Southern Tier Brewing Company, with an ABV 5.10% This American Pale Wheat Ale pours out of a 12oz glass bottle into a pint beer glass. There is a nice golden amber color with a nice white head, the head sticks around for awhile. Nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell of Lemon Drop Sun is rich with lemon citrus, with hop bitterness, with earthy grains and malts. There is a lot going in this brew so far, it is really inviting. Now for the taste , it is bold with flavors. You first pick up on the lemon them a easy going hop bitterness with earthy grains and malts. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. It goes down nice an some. This brew would go nice on a hot summer day or with lunch. The body of Lemon Drop Sun is a solid medium. Just the right amount of lemon and hops. The mouth feel is Bold, Rich, Lemon, Hoppy, Clean, and Refreshing. Overall I'm going to give Lemon Drop Sun a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Southern Tier Brewing Company, did a real nice job with American Pale Wheat Ale.

Paid about two bucks for the single into an imperial pint. Color of standard light beer clear golden with 1/4 inch of foam. Smells of lemon drop candy and wheat with flavors of a lemon flavored wheat beer minus the candy. Could see myself enjoying another. Pretty good!
