Giant Eagle
Columbus, OH

A deep, dark, auburn with orange edges. Thick, soapy off-white head forms and sticks around. Lots of lacing down the glass. A beautiful beer.

A very pleasing and pungent tropical and citrus nose. While the typical grapefruit and orange notes are here, there's a distinct apricot aroma as well. A mild aroma of grass and a touch of alcohol warmth round out the nose.

A very bitter DIPA with strong floral and pungent citrus notes. Clean finish with just a touch of alcohol warmth that reminds me of this beer's strength.

Medium to thick bodied, a touch slick with alcohol, ample carbonation.

A very bitter, very hop-forward DIPA.

22oz bottle into tulip glass.

Pours with a respectable 1-2F head over a fairly clear, dark golden body. Lots of lacing.

Nice earthy hop qualities (ironic, given the name) come through in the aromas, with some alcohol burn, and pineapple sweetness

Rich on the palate, with huge cascade hop flavor, accompanied by sweet apple, yeast, and some heat in the middle, and a bit of astringency in the finish. The hops really grab you and don't let the malt bill ever catch up.

Mouthfeel is lighter than you might expect from a 9.5% DIPA, but heftier than your standard IPA. Light carbonation.

This is a nicely done DIPA, and ST is unashamed in leading with the big hop profile to make this stand out by kicking you in the face with their hop-prowess.

OK - so this beer is kinda like a merger between the belgium style triple and a well hopped IPA. I tend to be a fan of the belgium styles, as well as IPA's, so this particular beer was a standout for me. In fact, it was the sole motivator for signing up on BeerAdvocate.

Hoppy Citrus aroma, light flavor, sudsy, very strong hops and not over sweet. Nice.

I have seen some comments about its drinkability - ok - so most belgium beers are too strong to be "drinkable". Your not going to sit back and knock off a sixer of these on a hot day - its just not that kind of beer. It is, however, a remarkable beer with few peers.
