Another dream beer for hop heads. Around 80ibus, feature two varieties of hops that we’ve recently experimented with: Huell Melon and Mandarina. Both hops offer subtle fruity notes like juicy cantaloupe and tangy orange. Residual malt sweetness matched with the refreshing summer fruit character of the hops makes this an exceptionally drinkable (bordering on crushable), double India Pale Ale.

Scene Two: A Wrinkle in the Fabric. Something has broken through the fabric of space and time. Is it a force of good, or something sinister? Stay tuned for episode 3, released in May!

Available for a limited time only beginning March 2 in select markets and March 5 everywhere. This is the second of six very limited releases within the Science is the Art Collection. Get them while you can!

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden honey in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate medium yellow + golden yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a couple of small patches of thick film surrounded by a large patch of mottled very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of tropical/melon, tropical/mango, herbal, and grassy hops over the top of moderate aromas of caramel + toasted + biscuit malts with a moderate amount of caramel sweetness.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of caramel + toasted + biscuit malts with a moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of tropical/melon, tropical/mango, herbal, and grassy hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving lingering malty sweetness behind.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly chewy with a hint of dryness + alcohol warming in the finish.

O: A touch sweeter than I prefer my DIPAs without quite enough balancing bitterness from the hops - though the hop flavor and aroma profile is quite enjoyable. Alcohol is relatively well hidden.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/27/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, strawberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, strawberry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, strawberry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and lightly creamy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.5%. Overall this is an awesome DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, with the moderately bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great showcase of Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria hops. Awesome balance between juicy, dank, and earthy hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.
